can i transfer balances from other credit cards after initial application.

Will you have to give up your current credit card when you transfer the balance?

  3. 3

    Hi Mary

This will depend on your credit card provider, however in cases I am aware of, a cheque/or transfer was done from the new bank (with the card that has the balance transfer option) to the old bank (with the card that has the balance). The old card generally isn’t cancelled unless you request it to be cancelled.

Please seek advice from a financial planner or your accountant before making a decision to do a balance transfer – they will provide you advice regarding your specific financial situation. Please also check the terms and conditions for each card, and get a full understanding from the financial institutions you have cards before making any decision to apply for a credit card.
