Does the complementary travel Insurance with my card cover Loss Waver Insurance or Crash Waver Insurance when a rent a car overseas

    • Staff
      Ally | September 23, 2016

      Hi Terry,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Unfortunately, the complementary travel insurance for American Express Qantas Ultimate Credit Card does not cover Loss or Crash Waver Insurance for car rental overseas.

It only includes Transport Accident Cover, Travel Inconvenience Cover, Medical Emergency Expenses Cove, Resumption of Journey Cover, Baggage, Money and Documents Cover, Travel Cancellation Cover, Personal Liability Cover, Purchase Protection Cover, and Refund Protection Cover.

For more details, kindly see the “Summary of Benefits and Scope of Cover” on the PDF file that I sent to your email.

      I hope this has helped.

      Cheers,
      Ally

Can you help with finding the dollar amount that is capped per month. Some cards only pay points up to 2000, 6,000 etc. Do the cards with the higher PA fees give you more in the monthly cap allowance before cutting of points.
    Best regards
    Adrian

      Hi Adrian,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Sorry for the delayed reply. Just to confirm, is it uncapped frequent flyer points you’re looking for? If so, there are actually credit cards that let you earn uncapped frequent flyer points and you can find them here. The uncapped points is not affected by the annual fee of the card.

      Cheers,
      May

When does the annual card fee get applied? We are looking at holding an additional card for less than one year so if the card fee applied at the start or the end?? If it is charged at the 12 months anniversary, Is it applied based on months you have held the card or if you cancel before 12 months the full fee applies regardless?
      thank you

    • Staff
      Jonathan | March 31, 2015

Hi Rebecca, thanks for your response.

The annual fee is charged within the 1st statement period/ month after card activation. Unfortunately there is no pro-rata charging for the annual fee, so the number of months which the card is held would not factor in.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

    Hello,

Your site says the AMEX Qantas Ultimate Credit Card has a $0 p.a. annual fee but under the key facts for this credit card on the AMEX site it says the annual fee is $450 p.a. Which site is correct?

Hi Nick, thanks for your inquiry and taking the time out to inform us of a potential misalignment in information.

Can I ask where you saw the $0 p.a. annual fee on our page? It is available in the article and in the table under ‘Fees & Repayments’, the annual fee is $450 p.a.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

I note in the T’s & C’s for the Qantas American Express Ultimate card that point 3 says “Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product offered by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 12-month period are ineligible” – this is in respect of the bonus QFF points. Can you tell me, if, through my bank (ANZ) I hold an ANZ platinum Visa/AMEX pair, does this make me ineligible?

    • Staff
      Elizabeth | October 13, 2014

      Hi Jess,

      Thanks for your question.

Unfortunately, as you hold an American Express card this does make you ineligible for the offer.

      Thanks,

Hi Tony, thanks for your inquiry!

Unfortunately this offer is only available to new cardholders. Card members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product offered by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 12-month period are ineligible for this offer.

Hello Elizabeth, thanks for the response, however can I please ask a follow up on the same topic – as now I’ve read a lot of the previous comments and this question was asked by others, with some conflicting answers.

e.g. Reading Jacob’s response on 31 Mar 2014, if I am reading correctly Jacob is saying that companion AMEX cards issued by a bank are excluded when considering whether the applicant has held a card product offered by AMEX Australia Ltd in the past 12 months.

Also Agnieska and Shirley’s posts from 8 May 2014 & 9 May 2014 indicate the same as what Jacob was saying, I think??

      regards

      Jess

      Elizabeth | October 14, 2014

      Hi Jess,

Thanks for pointing this out. I’ve called American Express to confirm this for you and they’ve said that existing cardholders are only defined as those who hold cards issued by American Express and not third party banks, which includes companion credit cards. So, you holding a companion credit card with ANZ does not make ineligible.

Thanks again for helping us clear this up, we aim to provide our users with the most accurate information possible to help them make informed decisions.

      Cheers,

      Elizabeth

I have been an Amex Ultimate card holder since they introduced it. Prior to that I was a platinum card holder.
Is the domestic complimentary cover for travel insurance a recent addition?
Am I entitled to avail the domestic insurance?
e.g. I have booked through Qantas Holidays and paid with the Amex Ultimate a trip to Hayman Island flying Qantas and Jetstar.
Is my wife also covered by this policy I believe still through ACE Insurance. She is a supplementary card holder

    • Staff
      Elizabeth | October 14, 2014

      Hi Ron,

      Thanks for your question.

You’ll be entitled to the domestic travel insurance when you pay for the full fare of a trip on your card, which you mentioned you have. In terms of your wife as a supplementary cardholder, she will only be covered for transport accident cover.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth

As a new ultimate card member do I have to spend the whole $500 at on store to get the bonus 50,000 points? And what do you mean by an eligible store?

    • Staff
      Elizabeth | October 13, 2014

      Hi Craig,

      Thanks for your question.

To be eligible for the bonus 50,000 you’ll need to spend $500 on your card within the first three months (earning you 42,500 points), 2,500 points after your first Card spend on selected Qantas Products and services in Australia, and 5,000 points after your first spend on the card. And by eligible store do you mean eligible purchases? Eligible purchases do not include cash advances, interest, balance transfers, fees and charges for traveller’s cheques and foreign currencies.

      Hope this has helped.

      Thanks,

      Elizabeth
