Apply For Credit Cards Online
Posted September 30th, 2009 and last modified June 15th, 2011Just as you can do most other things online these days, you can also apply for credit cards online, and it is normally done a lot more quickly and easily.
Fourteen million Australians possess a credit card, and around a third of those people actually hold at least three credit cards in their name. What are the benefits when you apply for credit cards online?
The process moves far more quickly for you, and there may be benefits attached if you apply for credit cards online. Many companies offer better rates for those people who pursue matters online, as this saves time and energy for the company as well.
However, bear in mind that you may have to download, print off and fill out the application form in writing when you apply for a credit card online, as the company may require a hard copy. This is still better for the company than having to mail you a hard copy from their headquarters.
Is it safe to apply for credit cards online?
There are sufficient security measures available nowadays to allow for a perfectly safe application online. Your computer will show you a little padlock symbol to verify that, when you apply for credit cards online, your information is being transmitted via a secure connection. As an added measure, you should always make sure your own internet security suite is up to date.
What are the criteria?
To apply for credit cards online, you must be at least 18 years old, be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, and also satisfy any income eligibility rule that applies to your chosen card, which range from around $15,000 per annum upwards. You will also be required to have a good credit rating – something that the card provider will need to verify.
The documents you will require:
- You will need to provide the following details from official documents:
- Driver’s licence number, assuming you have one
- Employer name, contact address and phone number, or, if self-employed, the same details from your accountant
- Details of all your income, or, if self-employed, your most recent tax declaration
- Details of all your assets
- Details of your current financial commitments – credit cards debts, mortgages, store accounts, etc.
- Your email address, so the bank can contact you
What happens next?
When you apply for credit cards online, your potential credit card provider should be able to give you an answer in principle within a few minutes. ‘In principle’ means that their answer is based on the information that you have given without proper verification.
Once you are officially approved – after you have brought your documents into a local branch for a representative to check – you can expect to receive your card in around three working days.
