Some people put off getting a credit card that is linked to a travel program because they aren’t sure which airlines have frequent flyer programs.

There are two major frequent flyer programs you can join in Australia – Qantas Frequent Flyer, and Velocity Rewards – and they have various partner airlines that you can use your points to travel with.

ANZ Frequent Flyer

The two major programs available in Australia are the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and the Virgin Australia Velocity program. They are both great travel schemes, and the one you join should be determined by which airline you frequent most.

Qantas Frequent Flyer program

Here is a list of airlines partnered with Qantas to show you which airlines have frequent flyer programs.

  • American Airlines
  • Cathay Pacific Airways
  • Iberia
  • LAN
  • Mexicana
  • British Airways
  • Finnair
  • Japan Airlines
  • Malev Hungarian Airlines
  • Royal Jordanian

Together, these airlines offer travel to over 675 different locations worldwide.

Well there are a lot of cards that are affiliated with this program, but the ANZ Frequent Flyer Visa is the most popular card according to Qantas.

Virgin Australia Velocity Rewards program

With this program you can book a flight on any of the Virgin Australia Group airlines including:

  • Virgin Australia
  • Pacific Blue
  • Polynesian Blue
  • V Australia

To find out which airlines have frequent flyer programs linked to the Virgin Australia Velocity travel scheme, see below.

  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Malaysia Airlines

The Virgin Australia program is newer than the Qantas one and therefore has less partner airlines. This may grow in time as the program becomes more popular and more in demand.

If you use any of these airlines frequently then getting a Frequent Flyer membership would save you a lot of money. You can get a credit card that is linked to these programs and you can start collecting points simply by purchasing your everyday items with the card. You will be rewarded with free travel for using your card to go shopping.

The NAB Velocity Visa is linked to the Virgin program so that you can redeem your rewards points for free flights.

It simply makes sense to get a travel rewards card and start saving points for free flights now that you know which airlines have frequent flyer programs. All yo have to do is fill out an application and start saving.
