Australian Airlines Participating In The Velocity Rewards Program

Featured Velocity Rewards Credit Card
If you are a frequent flyer on Virgin Australia, V Australia, Pacific Blue or Polynesian Blue then you will benefit from the NAB Standard Velocity Card. This rewards card allows you to earn Velocity Points whenever you use your card for purchases which can then be redeemed for an exciting range of rewards on these airlines.

The Velocity Rewards Program is the frequent flyer program of Virgin Australia. Originally launched by Virgin Australia in 2005, it partnered with National Australia Bank and offered a companion credit card. The Velocity Rewards program allows you to earn points for just about anything you spend on. It started with rewards for airline expenditures, but in the recent years, points from selected credit cards can be transferred to Velocity Rewards. These include Westpac, Diners Club Cards, American Express and ANZ Reward Visa Card. Points can also be accumulated from shopping, doing business transactions or even booking for hotel accommodations.
In the frequent flyer services, Velocity Rewards offers several features that other frequent flyer programs do not. A key feature is on point earning. With Velocity Rewards, points are earned relative to the flight cost, instead of the length. Status levels dictate the amount of points a passenger can earn.
- Red – Every dollar spent on flights with Virgin Australia, Pacific Blue and Polynesian Blue earns you five Velocity points.
- Silver – Offers one free pass to Virgin Australia’s The Lounge. Six points are earned instead of five, along with a 20% bonus earn rate on V Australia.
- Gold – Gold members have all the benefits of Red and Silver members. They also have priority phone service when you’re calling for assistance. Seven points are earned for every dollar spent, along with a 40% bonus earn rate on V Australia.
“Any Seat, Any Time”
Velocity Rewards program is the first in Australia to have the “any seat, any time” reward flight availability. This program means that the amount of points needed to redeem an award seat corresponds directly to the current fare of the seat. Therefore, any seat that’s available can be redeemed.
Airline Partners
Various Australian airlines have signed up as participating partners with Velocity Rewards. When traveling with any of these airlines, you can earn points that you can later on use with the Velocity Rewards system. Here are the list of participating airlines.
- Virgin Australia - This is the second largest airline in Australia. Launched in 2000, it’s known among the low-cost domestic flights across the country to being the most affordable choice. The flights range from 28 cities and towns across the country.
- Pacific Blue – This is the subsidiary airlines of Virgin Australia. They offer flights between Australia and New Zealand, as well as flights to Fiji, Tonga, Vanuatu and the Cook Islands. They also offer domestic flights across a few cities in New Zealand.
- Polynesian Blue - This is another Virgin Australia subsidiary and works in conjunction with the government of Samoa. They offer flights between the island of Tonga, Samoa and Fiji. They also have flights between Samoa, Australia and New Zealand.
- V Australia – Virgin Australia aimed to increase the number of international flights going out of Australia with this subsidiary. They offer flights to the United States and the United Kingdom. Recently, they’ve opened flights to Johannesburg and Thailand.
- SkyWest Airlines – SkyWest is one of the airlines not owned by Virgin. A property of Singapore Airlines, they’ve partnered with the Velocity Rewards program and offers extensive flights across towns in Western Australia and the Northern Territory.
- Other airlines have been added to the Velocity Rewards Program, many of which cater to flights in parts of the world not yet offered by any of Virgin’s airlines. These include Malaysia Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Airlines PNG and Delta. This is their bid to compete with Qantas, Virgin’s major rival airline.
Velocity Rewards Store
Points earned through Velocity Rewards can be redeemed in various ways. Some choose to take free flights in the “Any Seat, Any Time” promotion. Others use it to book hotel rooms when they travel. The points can also be used to redeem parking or car rentals.
Another option is to redeem points at the Velocity Rewards Store. Here you can pick from various items or gift vouchers. Among the items you can redeem include book and magazine subscriptions, electronic gadgets, iTunes gift cards, travel and leisure vouchers or food vouchers.
The Velocity Rewards program is a versatile way to maximize the points you earn when you buy tickets from the participating Australian airlines. Not only do you get to travel, but you get to have a lot of freebies plus a great experience with a quality airline.
