Low rate credit cards
Low rate cards cost less if you carry a balance from month to month. These offers are great for purchasing big ticket items or even to use for day to day purchases, and this is especially true if the card has an interest-free purchase promotion. Look out for special deals as they can make using a low rate card for purchases even cheaper.
No annual fee credit cards
No annual fee credit cards have a higher purchase rate than low rate credit cards, but they also offer interest-free days, too. The purchase rate only kicks in if you carry a balance forward, but if you pay your card off when your statement comes, these cards cost nothing to own or to use.
Rewards credit cards
Rewards credit cards give you points when you make a purchase. These points can be used for flights or merchandise, and some rewards programs let you transfer your points to a selected frequent flyer program. Be aware of the annual fee — the higher the annual fee, the more money you need to spend on the card before you see the value returned in the form of rewards.
Frequent flyer credit cards
These cards are linked to a frequent flyer program. Eligible purchases on a frequent flyer credit card are rewarded with frequent flyer points, which are automatically credited to your membership. These cards have interest rates and annual fees that are much higher than other products. Frequent flyer credit cards work better for people who spend a large amount on their credit card and pay back what they spend to get interest-free days.

What’s the right Bankwest credit card?
We get this question a lot. People want to know what the most valuable credit card is. The answer is that: ‘it depends’. Everyone is different. Some people pay their card off every month without fail, while others may carry a debt from month to month. You may need to ask yourself a couple of questions to help you find the card that’s right for you.
Do you need the perks?
Whether or not you will carry a balance forward is a good way to help you find the ideal credit card. There’s no point paying a high annual fee for credit card extras and perks when you’re going to incur high interest charges for carrying a balance.
Can you pay off your card every month?
Conversely, big spenders may want to look past Bankwest’s low rate products to a card with points. If you can pay back your balance in full each month, the interest-free days feature allows you to use the card for interest-free purchases.
Do you want to pay off an existing credit card debt?
Whether you’re carrying a balance on another credit card is another important point. There are some great balance transfer offers at the moment that can save you money in interest repayments. Are you a frequent flyer?
If you’re a frequent flyer for business or you simply travel a lot, a credit card that rewards you with frequent flyer points may be worth comparing.
