BankWest is Back – How do they Compete?

Posted December 23rd, 2008 and last modified March 15th, 2010

Bankwest Lite MasterCard Offer

BankWest Lite MasterCard

Reduce stress with a guaranteed low rate credit card. This award winning credit card will help you save more with an amazingly low purchase and balance transfer rate. This deal is sizzling hot!

  • $59 annual fee
  • 10.75% p.a. on purchases
  • 21.49% p.a. on cash advances
  • 1.99% p.a. for 9 months on balance transfers

The recent Commonwealth Bank acquisition of BankWest have opened them up to the realm of online credit card comparison and application. The first available is their low interest offer, the BankWest Lite MasterCard.

Before Aussie lowered their flagship MasterCard rate to 2.99% for 6 months (reverts to 12.29%), it held the crown for lowest interest on purchases in relation to annual fee. While BankWest are arguably 2nd, they are yet to recently lower their interest rate and hence are likely to resume position at the leaderboard.

BankWest vs Aussie

  • Both feature a $35 late payment fee.
  • The BankWest Lite offers 1.99% p.a. for 9 months on balance transfers, while the Aussie MasterCard offers 2.99% p.a. for 6 months on balance transfers.
  • BankWest Lite features 10.75% on purchases, 21.49% on cash advances and a $59 annual fee. Aussie MasterCard features 2.99% for 6 months (reverts to 12.29%) on purchases, 18.79% on cash advances $49 for annual fees.

For the time being, the Aussie MasterCard is the winner with little doubt. Keep in mind that terms and features are constantly subjective to change, and cards are always teetering on the edge of change.
