Gold and platinum members at Card Services Direct can now transfer their rewards points to the Velocity Rewards airline loyalty program, provided they have an account with the latter. Velocity is currently available from a number of other card issuers, including ANZ, Westpac, and Citibank. The service can be accessed through Card Services Direct’s Internet and phone banking options.
Card Services Direct, a joint service by Citigroup and MasterCard, is linked to several frequent flyer and rewards programs, including Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer, and Citibank’s Take Flight airline booking and cash-back scheme. Velocity Rewards is a relatively new but award-winning program offered by V Australia, Virgin Australia, Pacific Blue, and Polynesian Blue.
Transfer requirements
Cardholders will receive one Velocity point for every 1.5 Card Services Direct reward points transferred. The initial transfer must be at least 15,000 points, and subsequent transfers must be in batches of 15,000 as well. These points can then be used to pay for Virgin Australia, Virgin Australia, Pacific Blue, or Polynesian Blue flights using the Card Services Direct MasterCard. It can take up to 28 days for transferred points to show up in your Velocity Membership Account. Once transferred, the points are subject to Velocity Rewards’ terms and conditions rather than Card Services Direct.
Joining Velocity Rewards
It’s important to note that Velocity Rewards membership doesn’t come with your Card Services Direct account. You must apply for one separately and be a member before attempting to transfer your points. Application is free on the Velocity website, and you get your membership number as soon as you complete the online form. You will need this number to transfer your Card Services Direct points.
Never lose points
As long as you’re an active Velocity member, there’s no expiry date on points earned. Point expiry is one of the most common traps in the Australian credit card market, to the point that a small industry of “miles management” services has sprung up in recent years. Velocity Rewards eliminates this issue, allowing you to save your points up for as long as you need to.
Velocity Rewards is also the first airline rewards scheme to offer the “any seat, any time” feature. Basically, it eliminates the blackout dates and other restrictions that plague other rewards programs and keep cardholders from fully enjoying the benefits. With Velocity Rewards, as long as there are seats available on an eligible airline, you can use your Velocity points to buy them, even on the busiest holidays. This has won the program widespread recognition from the Airline Information Mega Awards, the Freddie Awards, and the Australian Marketing Institute.
