Compare Cheap Credit Card Deals

Many cheap credit cards are low interest and merely classified as cheap because they are so easy to pay off. Some cards for students are especially cheap because of the understanding the bank grants to students in dire living circumstances. The two main points for a cheap credit card are the purchase rate and balance transfer rate. But there can be lots of stipulations on these two rates and the cash advance rate can be deceptively used to drive up your rates so read all the fine print if the cheap credit card seems too cheap to be true.

What Is A Good Example Of A Cheap Credit Card?

The Citibank Clear Platinum Credit Card is a good example of a card that is universally considered cheap. Decisions are unanimous as far as classifying this as an especially cheap card. It is featured on many blogs and websites for cheap credit cards because it stands out as a hallmark example, a poster child if you will. Learn more about it by reading through the following features:

  • The annual fee is $99.
  • 0% p.a. for a whole year after applying
  • There is 0% p.a. for 12 months with 3% balance transfer fee
  • The ongoing interest rate is 11.99% p.a., and other interest rates are usually around 20% or so for comparable credit cards in the same niche.
  • The cash advance rate is 21.74% p.a.
  • There is an interest-free period that lasts for almost 2 months
  • You have to be over 18 years of age and make at least $40,000 a year
  • The card also offers extended warranty insurance, international travel insurance, and purchase protection insurance.

The card also rewards spending, so not only is it cheap, but it helps you earn money too. The credit limits are also very generous for a card targeted at such a demographic, and it ranges from $8,000 to $60,000. There is also a concierge service to help you with anything you need.

What Is A Second Cheap Credit Card?

Using one cheap credit card as a representative for them all really isn’t fair when it has such great features and could outdo all the other credit cards of its class in any group. So here is a sample credit card that is more like the best. It has a name that makes it clear what it is from the start – the Low Rate MasterCard from ANZ. What are some of its features? Take a look at the following:

  • Low annual fee of $58 per year
  • 0% p.a. for 3 months for a single year on balance transfer
  • 0% p.a. for 3 months (reverts to 13.24% p.a.) on ongoing interest rate
  • There is no additional card fee
  • The cash advance rate is still pretty high at 21.49% p.a., but if you just use it for purchases and balance transfers, you should be fine.
  • The interest free period is standard at 55 days
  • The minimum age required to get this card is 18
  • The minimum income is astonishingly low at $15,000.
  • Get a response in 60 seconds or less to know if you’ve been approved
  • You can get up to three additional cards at no cost to you

What Are Annual Fees Like?

Annual fees for credit cards with low rates on interest and balance transfers usually have low annual fees to keep in tandem with the already low rates. Some of the annual fees are $49, $58, $55, $69, $0, $45, $49, $99, $130, $59, and $30. The average annual fee is right around $50. Be wary of banks that don’t charge an annual fee because they will try to make up for it in other ways. Annual fees can sometimes be waived if you meet certain criteria. There are a lot of options for sidestepping this pesky little fee if you choose a credit card offer that lets you meet certain criteria in order to get it removed after a certain period of time. Ask the bank if they have a credit card with this option.

Getting The Cheapest Credit Card Offers Around

Sometimes, banks charge a $0 annual fee, but they make up for it in a higher interest rate, so watch out for that. If you use your credit card a lot and make only the minimum payments, then you should find a deal with a low interest rate. A card with a cheap balance transfer is also a good way to save money because you can transfer all your old debt to the new card and pay it off very quickly. But watch out because the introductory rate for balance transfer jumps up to a higher rate after 6 months. Concerning Rewards Programs, a lot of credit cards have them, but there is really no need to get a credit card with one unless you are going to spend a lot of money and earn enough points to do something with them.

What About Applying?

Applying is very easy. Most credit card offers have big apply buttons. Just click one and fill out the application. You should get an answer in 15 minutes or less. Some have answer times of just one minute. A credit card will usually show you the criteria before applying so you can know whether you should waste your time on it or not. You have to be over 18 years of age, earn over $40,000 a year, have a great credit rating, be a citizen of Australia, and you have to have all your personal details ready to complete the application to get started on the Citibank Clear Platinum Card for example.
