Citibank Citi Rewards Program

There a range of different cards that you can choose from when you want to become a part of the Citibank Citi rewards program or Emirates Skywards rewards program.

  • Earning points. You will receive one point for every dollar you spend using your card. These points can then be redeemed for valuable merchandise, gift cards or flights. You can also earn bonus points if you hold a Gold or Platinum card. Some magazine subscriptions, real estate agents, retailers and restaurants are bonus partners in the rewards program, which gives you a chance to really earn some extra points.
  • Gift cards. There is a wide range of stores where you can redeem your points for gift cards or vouchers. Some of these stores include Target, Myer and David Jones. Vouchers are available for Hyatt hotels and you can get free movie ticket at Hoyts. If you would rather make a donation to a charity there are a number to choose from such as the Starlight Children’s Foundation and Guide Dogs Australia.
  • Flights. If it’s a flight you need then you can redeem your Citibank Citi rewards points for flights with international airlines through the Citi Take Flight scheme. Airlines such as Virgin Australia, Emirates, British Airways and Qantas Airlines have teamed up with Citibank so that you are able to book both domestic and international flights using your points.
  • Travel planning. You can use your Citibank Citi rewards points to book accommodation packages or use them for travel vouchers.
  • Benefits of the Rewards Program. Unlike many other rewards programs, you can use your points in this program along with cash to get that special item. With other programs you may have to wait until you have collected enough points to get your selection, but this program gives you the option of getting it when you want it.

As you can see above, the Citibank Citi rewards program has something for everybody. Choose this card when you’re looking for a wide selection of redeemable products and services.

I want to transfer my Citibank rewards points to either kris flyer or Qantas frequent flyer as I am planning to go overseas. What is the procedure and can I do it on line?

      Hi Oscar,

      Thanks for your question.

If you wish to transfer your Citi rewards to other frequent flyer programs, you’ll need to get in touch with Qantas or Singapore Airlines and opt into their Krisflyer or Qantas Frequent Flyer programs. Please refer to the link I have sent to your email for their contact details.

However, please also note that once you have transferred your reward points to frequent flyer points, you can no longer reverse the transfer and get back the original credit card reward points.

You may wish to read first our guide for more information about transferring credit card rewards points to frequent flyer points.

      I hope this helps.

My father has reward points and he wants to purchase ME 2 virgin flight tickets. How can he do this?

      Hi Jeannine,

      Thanks for your inquiry,

Please note that the flight can be booked for card holders only. Flights redeemed under rewards points can be booked for other members if they are an additional cardholder under the account.

      I hope this helps!

      Hi Trish,

      Thanks for your question.

Two Citibank Rewards Points on a Platinum card are worth one Velocity Point, so your points will roughly be worth 36,086. There’s no specific dollar value for these points, as it depends on the type of flight you book, the type of Velocity membership you have (ie. what level of membership) among other things. There is more information on how many points it takes to redeem certain flights on the Velocity website.

      Hope this has helped.

      Hi Elizabeth,

I booked a flight in April from Perth to Phuket. Citibank put me through to a travel agent who converted the points to dollars and i had to pay for the flight and the money (points into dollars) was then credited to my Citibank card. I flew with Virgin as the point to dollars value was greater than flying with Singapore Airlines.

It wasn’t booked on points. How can this be explained?

      Cheers, Trish

      Hi Trish,

The travel agent may have been able to convert the points to a dollar value based on the flight you took. As I explained above, there is no general ‘dollar value’ because each flight is worth a different amount of points, but based on the two flights you were looking at you may have gotten more value from one flight over the other.

      Hope this has helped.
