When you pay for your meal at a participating restaurant, you’re eligible for a free bottle of award winning wine. What you need to know about your bottle of free wine

Marcus Marchant: Head of Customer Strategy & Transformation at Citibank

The Citibank Dining Program gives our cardholders a free bottle of award-winning wine every time they dine at hundreds of restaurants around Australia, and pay with their Citibank card. To find restaurants that participate in the Citibank Dining Program, customers can either download the mobile app, which has a tracking finder, which can tell you where your restaurants are that are close to you, or enable you to search for
restaurants. Alternatively, go to the website, CitibankDining.com.au; it has full details of all the restaurants participating and great reviews and overviews of those restaurants, and how to contact them to make your booking.

The Citibank Dining Program has a lot of different types of restaurants. It ranges from [inaudible: 00:34] restaurants, right through local restaurants that we know and love. If you have a local restaurant you’d love to get included, let us know. Tell us on our Facebook wall, and we’ll do our best to approach the restaurant and get them to join our program.

To get a free bottle of wine, it’s as simple as telling the waiter when you’re looking at the wine list that you’d like to get the Citibank Dining Program partner wine. They’ll talk you through the options, and
there will be an award-winning white or an award-winning red wine to choose from. Basically, enjoy the bottle at the end of the day. Pay for the meal with your Citibank card. There is a limit of one free bottle of wine per table. When we do have multiple cardholders from Citibank dining together, it is limited to one bottle.

There’s no limit to the number of times you can redeem the free wine in the Citibank Dining Program. You could potentially dine out every day of the year and still get your free bottle of wine. It’s not a short-term program, it’s a long-term value proposition that our customers can benefit from.

My favourite Citibank Dining Program wine is the First Creek Verdelho. Absolutely amazing wine. I get it whenever I can.

The free wine

Just some of the wines that are available through the Citibank Dining Program

Fancy some free wine? Well, when you sit down to eat at a participating restaurant and tell your waiter(ess) that you are eligible for a free bottle of wine; you will have a choice of a red or a white courtesy of Citibank. The wines have been hand-picked by a team of experts and have received a four or five star rating by the Winestate Magazine. There are 15 wines available all hailing from the finest wineries from all over Australia and New Zealand. Some of the varieties of wine include:

  • Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Merlot from Clairault, margaret River, W.A.
  • Shiraz and Verdelho from First Creek in the Hunter Valley

How do I get a free bottle of award winning wine?

To get your free bottle of award winning wine you simply inform the waiter(ess) who seats you at your table that you are a eligible Citibank cardholder and would like your complimentary bottle of wine with your meal. Do this before you order. There are two wines to choose between – a red and a white. If you select a wine that is out of stock, you will be offered an equivalent alternative from the restaurants list of wines.

Some t&c’s to be aware of

  • You will have to dine in, there is no wine with take-away;
  • You have to order a main course and pay for it on your Citibank credit or debit card;
  • It must be a participating restaurant;
  • There is no minimum spend to receive your complimentary bottle of wine, only that you pay for the bill on your Citibank card. However, if you are visiting a restaurant with a sharing menu, like Yum Cha, there must be a minimum spend of $50 to receive the free bottle of wine.

When you’re out, follow these steps

Find your restaurant with the Citibank APP

Before you go out, plan where you going to eat. You can avoid any fuss while you’re out with the Citibank World Privileges App for smartphones and tablet devices. This APP details the location of participating restaurants, a description about their cuisine and the free wine on offer when you dine there.

Check with restaurant staff to see if the promotion is still running

Anecdotal evidence suggests that some restaurants may be a little lax in updating their websites after they have stopped participating in the promotion. To avoid any disappointment, the best course of action is to check with a member of staff when you arrive at the restaurant to see if you can still get free wine. There should be a sticker on the door of the restaurant showing their participation in the program but it always helps to ask too.

Choose your next destination

Jump back on the smartphone APP and select your next fine wining dining experience. You’re not limited by the number of times you can receive a free bottle of wine, only that you pay for the bill using your Citibank credit or debit card.

As well as banking services, Citibank also offers a unique dining experience. If you like to eat out quite a lot then this is definitely a rewards program that you may want to look into.

You will need to be a Citibank card holder to take part in this rewards program.

Understanding Citibank Dining

The Citibank Dining Program has been designed to help you to enhance your dining out experience. By using your eligible Citibank credit or debit card to pay for a meal at a participating restaurant, you’re eligible for a free bottle of award winning wine with your meal. The scheme also has an “Insider’ feature which comprises of chefs, food writers and restaurateurs. They let you know about their favourite places to eat in Australia.

Free Wine – What You Need to Know

One thing that you will find with the Citibank Dining Program is that you can have a complimentary bottle of wine along with your food. This is a premium wine that has been hand selected by the Insiders. You can benefit from the complimentary bottle of wine every single time that you eat out.

There are 15 different wines included in the program. They are each taken from Australia and New Zealand’s finest wineries. All of the wines have been voted by the Winestate magazine of Epicure as 4 or 5 stars. This means that they will all have a high quality taste.

Some of the wines currently on offer include Perth Hills, WE, Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Merlot from Clairault, Chardonnay from Barking Owl and Shelley’s Block Marsanne-Viognier, Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon from Neagles Rock. All of these wines and a whole host more are included in the Citibank Dining Experience.

As you can see even for the most delicate of pallet there will be a wine to please every taste!

No other wines apart from the ones listed are available with the program. You also need to ensure that you are dining at selected restaurants. Not all restaurants in Australia will enable you to use your Citibank Dining rewards program.

As you can see, the range on offer is outstanding. You can expect nothing but the best wines on this program.

Which Restaurants Are Participating?

The participating restaurants can be found through the Citibank Dining Program APP. There is a map which enables you to see exactly which near by restaurants are participating in the program. Just click on your state and it will show you a list of restaurants and a short description about the type of restaurant.

The online guide shows you where the restaurants are, the average price of a main, what type of food they serve and the occasion they would best suit. It is the easiest way to find the perfect dining solution to suit your mood, your company and your budget. As well as clicking the map and finding the restaurants that way, you can also search by cuisine or occasion.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you still have questions about Citibank Dining then you have come to the right place. Here you will find the answers to the most commonly asked questions. This should tell you everything that you need to know about the experience.

Who is Eligible for the Citibank Dining Experience?

In order to take part in this rewards program you will need to be a Citibank card holder. If you do not currently have any of these cards then you can apply for them online.

You will need to earn a minimum salary and there will be annual charges for the credit cards. Gold and Platinum cards offer numerous rewards but they are only given to those who have good credit and who earn a minimum salary.

What are the Terms and Conditions of the Free Wine?

In order to receive your complimentary bottle of wine, you first need to ensure that you dine in. You will not receive the bottle if you order a take away. It must be drunk on the premises. You also need to double check that you are at a participating restaurant.

Not every restaurant in Australia will allow you to take part in the Citibank Dining experience there. Check the website to see exactly which restaurants are participating in your area. You must order a main course to enjoy a complimentary bottle of wine, you will need to request the wine when you pay and specify that it is for the Citibank Dining offer.

It is worth noting that you will also need to order the main course and pay your bill on your Citibank card.

The restaurant may not always have the wine that you want from the premium hand selected collection. However, they will always stock one white wine and one red wine from the list. So no matter what flavour you prefer on the day, you will be able to enjoy a bottle of premium wine to suit it.

If the wine that you choose is out of stock, the restaurant will offer you a suitable replacement. This should be the same quality wine as the one that you had originally chosen.
One question which many people have is whether they can split the bill to receive more than one complimentary bottle of wine. The answer is no. If you do choose to split the bill you will still only receive one bottle of complimentary wine.

You can only ever have one complimentary bottle per dining experience. However, you can dine out as often as you like and you will receive the complimentary wine with every booking. Once you have accepted a complimentary bottle of wine, you cannot swap it for a different one at another participating restaurant. You also cannot swap it for any other wine on the wine list. It has to be one of the hand selected wines specifically chosen for the program.

How are the Wines Rated?

The wines are rated using the James Halliday rating system, voted on by the Winestate Magazine or given four or five stars from Epicure Magazine. The James Halliday Points system runs from 87-100. Wines that rank from 87-89 are considered to be above average. Wines that rate from 90-93 are considered to be of a high quality and worth having in any cellar. Then there are wines which are rated 94-100 and they are considered to have a distinguished pedigree and they are the highest quality available. All the James Halliday rated Citibank wines are all 90 points plus.

Where Can I Find Information on the Participating Restaurants?

There are more than 100 participating restaurants and they have been recommended by the 100 Citibank Insiders. Restaurants are being added all the time and you can request to have your favourite restaurant added to the Citibank Dining Program simply by sending a request to Citibank over their Facebook page.
