Is there a limit on how much can be transferred?

    • Staff
      Jeremy | June 15, 2011

      Hi Annette

      Thanks for your comment.

When doing a balance transfer, you can only do a balance transfer up to the approved credit limit assigned to you when you apply for the card. The credit limit you receive will depend partially on your current income and other criteria for the credit application.

      Cheers

Citibank Gold Credit Card the $149 annual fee, how is this charged to your new credit card on approval and if so does it begin accruing interest if you are applying for a balance transfer

When making my application can I save it at any time & come back later to complete it. I’m told it is usual to be able to save the application for up to 14 days.

If so how do I do this?

I currently have ready credit account with the citibank with 0 balance. I’d like to apply for a new visa card and have the balance from another bank transferred to it. My intention is to have one card only cuz I don’t want my current credit limit be taken into account when I apply for the new card (as this may affect my credit limit). How can I go about it to avoid this problem? Thanks

Can’t really seem to see a big difference in the Gold and Platinum card provided by Citibank. What’s the major difference other than the annual fee :P

    • Staff
      Jeremy | July 18, 2011

      Hi J

      Thanks for your comment!

      The core differences are:
      - The credit limit on the Citibank Platinum is up to $100,000 vs the Citibank Gold which has a maximum credit limit of $60,000
      - The annual fee is $250 for the Citibank Platinum vs $149 for the Citi Gold
      - Additional cardholders for the Citibank Platinum cost $90 vs the Citi Gold where additional cardholders are $60 each
      - The Citibank Platinum is available with a Visa only, whereas the Citi Gold is available as a Visa or MasterCard
      - The minimum income to apply for the Citibank Platinum is $35,000 p.a. vs the Citibank Gold which has a minimum income requirement of $30,000 p.a.
      - Frequent Flyer Options: Citibank Platinum can be redeemed for Velocity and Kris Flyer, and also has the option for joining Citi Qantas Rewards, whereas the Citi Gold only has the Kris Flyer and Velocity options.
      - Extended Warranty on your purchases is available only with the Citibank Platinum
      - The Citibank Platinum Visa has a personal 24/7 concierge service through Platinum Visa

      Hope this comparison helped!

      Cheers

Is it possible to transfer balances from personal loans at all or only credit card balances from other lenders?
If it is possible to transfer personal loan balances, can you advise me whether I am able to transfer balances specifically from GE Finance and Esanda Finance?

      Hi Tina

      Thanks for your question.

Yes it is possible to transfer your existing personal loans to the Citibank Gold Credit Card. As far as I’m aware, those providers would be ok – however you are best to check with Citibank with this specific question.

Is there any extra charge if I switch to other bank credit card before 15th month maturity?

    • Staff
      Jeremy | August 2, 2011

      Hi Viki

      Thanks for your comment

In order to avoid interest charges and fees, you will need to call Citibank prior to the 15 month mark to ensure you get the full amount you require to do a balance transfer, avoiding interest charges. You also need to allow enough time to get your new credit card, and also take in to account the time it takes to do a balance transfer from the new card to Citibank.

It is important you seek financial advice before making a decision on which credit card to apply for, and also regarding your question.

      Cheers

Can I get an indication of how much credit you would give me for a balance transfer without actually applying for a card ?

    • Staff
      Jeremy | February 28, 2012

      Hi Matt,

The maximum limit for a balance transfer is 90-95% of the upper credit limit, so it depends on how much credit Citibank extends to you based on their assessment of your credit card application. Hope this answered our question.

      Cheers,
      Jeremy

    • Staff
      Jeremy | February 28, 2012

      Hi Emma,

The Citibank Gold Card is no longer available for application. The Citibank Clear Platinum Card offers a balance transfer, the rate information is available in the review above. The limit of a balance transfer is generally 90-95% of the upper credit limit of your card.

      Cheers.

    Hi
I am interested in consolidating 2 credit cards with a total balance owing of $4500 by taking advantage of citibank’s 15 mth balance transfer offer.
I’ve just received a statement for one the cards & it has an overlimit amount showing of $87. Will that affect my application negatively if I apply online today for a citibank gold Visa or MC?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 12, 2012

Hi Sonia. If you pay the charge quickly and avoid letting it drag on, it should show to your financial institution, and other, that you are able to service a credit card debt. This is one of the things lenders are looking for in an applicant. Check our page for more information on why credit card applications are declined. Also keep in mind that the amount you wish to transfer over to the Citibank Gold Credit Card must be less than the approved credit limit. Thanks for your question.

are existing citibank credit card holder eligible for the 1.9% 15 month balance transfer offer?

      Hi Daniel

      Thanks for your comment!

If you are an existing Citi Credit Cardholder, you must have held your current Citi account for at least 9 months before you can apply for another Credit Card. You will still also need to meet the normal criteria for application.

      Hope this helps :)

Can I do a $50K balance transfer in so as to take advantage of the 1.9% p.a. for 15 months and then do a balance transfer out to another bank with such a similarly attractive deal?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 19, 2012

Hi Lotsa. You can technically do what you’re talking about; however, there are risks involved, mainly not getting approved for a new credit card once the balance transfer period expires on the old card. The interest rate can jump by as much as 20% with some credit cards. The most important things to remember about balance transfers are: the amount you want to transfer from your old credit card must be less than the approved credit limit on your new credit card, and at the end of the introductory period the interest rate will revert to either the cash advance or purchase interest rate, depending on the card. Thanks for your question.

Hi, I was wondering does the balance transferred have to come from another credit card or can the balance be transferred from a personal bank loan?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 12, 2012

Hi Shelly. Generally speaking, balance transfers are only allowed between non-related credit cards; however, Citibank are one institution that allows customers to transfer the balance from a person loan or line of credit to a credit account. The Citibank Ready Credit Account is an example of a Citibank account where this is possible. Thanks for your question.

This offer through citibank is a dud. We went through the application process and it was approved for the full amount to be transferred (from 1 credit card). Then they sent us the new credit card, and a rejection letter on the full amount, but approving a new reduced amount they will transfer (32% of full amount) instead. There reason is because they are including the old credit card limit (where it is being transferred from) in the debt calculations. Even though we signed a letter to get the old account closed once the complete amount is transferred.
Defeats the purpose of the application in the first place. We have asked for no money to be transferred and are cancelling the card.

If you haven’t paid off the balance transfer by 14th month, is there any penalty incurred in transferring to another card with a low balance transfer offer? Is it correct that if a credit limit of $25000 is approved, that $25000 can be balance transferred from other credit cards? In 15 months, would the fee of $149 be paid twice?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 20, 2012

Hi JSeed. Thanks for your question. Check out our article on not paying any credit card interest for further information. The annual fee is charged once to the credit card account after the card is activated. Cheers.

    Hi

I already have a credit card that I transferred the balance too almost 12 months ago. Is there anything stopping me then transferring that balance to the Citibank card?

    • Staff
      Jeremy | October 24, 2011

      Hi Matt

      Thanks for your comment

If you were to transfer to another Citibank credit card, you have to leave 9 months between applying for another Citibank credit card.

Normal Citibank credit card application criteria will apply – when you click the “Apply” button it will bring up application criteria for each card. Generally speaking, the main difference between each card’s application criteria will be the required minimum income. Platinum credit cards from Citibank generally have a higher minimum income requirement.

      Hope this helps

      Cheers
