Learn more about No Annual Fee Credit Cards
  • Rewards credit cards

The No Annual Fee MasterCard and the Rewards MasterCard have similar features and fees. The difference between these two cards is the earn rate and the annual fee. Coles Rewards MasterCard’s feature No international transaction fees on purchases when shopping online or when you’re overseas. You pay the extra $89 on the Rewards MasterCard so you can earn twice the number of flybuys points when you make an eligible purchase. A high earn rate is suited to people who have a higher annual spend. If you plan on using your Coles MasterCard a lot, the Rewards MasterCard is worth comparing. As far as rewards credit cards go, the Coles Rewards MasterCard has a comparative annual fee of only $89 Once you’ve spent enough to recoup the Rewards MasterCard annual fee, you’ll benefit from a greater number of flybuys points per dollar spent.

The minimum repayment is usually a small percentage of your outstanding balance (if you’re carrying a debt), which you must pay back to stop your account from entering into default and incurring a late payment fee. You can use the methods listed in the previous question to make a payment to your Coles MasterCard.

Get in touch with Latitude Financial Services and start a discussion about financial hardship provisions if you’re unable to make your Coles MasterCard minimum repayment. GE can be contacted on 1800 220 718.

How do I make a repayment to my Coles MasterCard?

You can make a payment to your Coles MasterCard using the following methods.

Kmart & Target – You can make a payment to your Coles MasterCard in person at a Target or Kmart outlet. Bring your Coles MasterCard and your credit card statement to a register and you can pay using EFTPOS or cash.

Direct debit – By completing and sending in a direct debit request form (available from the Coles website), you can automatically pay your Coles MasterCard when your statement is issued. You have the option of paying just the minimum monthly repayment, a specified amount or you can automatically pay your entire balance each month. You need to pay your Coles MasterCard from another bank’s transaction or savings account.

BPAY - Log on to your internet banking facility and pay your Coles MasterCard using BPAY. The Coles MasterCard BPAY Biller Code is 8862 and your customer reference number is your 16 digit Coles MasterCard account number. Because you’re transferring between banks (from your bank to Coles), BPAY payments are only processed during business hours and can take up to three business days to process. Transactions made over the weekend and on public holidays may take a little longer to process.

At an Australia Post retail outlet - Pay your credit card in person by taking your Coles MasterCard statement to an Australia Post retail outlet. Remember that there’s a small fee if you want to pay your Coles MasterCard in person at Australia Post.

By cheque – You can find a payment slip issued with you Coles MasterCard statement. Rip this off and send it with a cheque to Coles MasterCard Customer Care, GPO Box 236E, Melbourne, VIC, 8111.

How can I increase or decrease my credit limit?

If you want more credit on your Coles MasterCard, get in touch with Coles on 1300 306 397 and let them know that you would like a credit limit increase. Coles will run through some basic questions about your expenses and how much you earn when they make a decision about increasing your credit limit.

Your credit limit is based on how much you can afford to repay, so if you accepted the maximum credit limit when you applied for a Coles MasterCard and your circumstances have not changed, you may not be eligible for a credit limit increase.

If you would like a credit limit decrease, contact Coles on the number above and let them know you want a lower credit limit. You can do this at any time.

A credit limit increase or decrease only takes a few minutes to approve and can be applied to your account on the same day.

What’s the Coles Mobile Wallet and Coles Pay Tag?

The Mobile Wallet lets you make contactless payments using your smartphone. It combines your Coles MasterCard and your flybuys card so you can make contactless payments and keep track of your purchases from your smartphone.

Once you get your Coles MasterCard, download the Coles Mobile Wallet APP. You can then request a Pay Tag. The Coles Pay Tag is a small barcode sticker you attach to the back of your smartphone.

To make a purchase, first scan the Coles Pay Tag at the register. This ensures you get the maximum number of flybuys points per transaction. Then hold your smartphone to a contactless terminal to make a payment. The Pay Tag lets you make payments with your phone and the Mobile Wallet APP lets you manage your account and view your flybuys points balance.

What’s the difference between Coles Internet banking and the Coles Credit Card App?

The Coles Mobile Wallet lets you do most of the things you can do using the Coles MasterCard online banking facility. Both platforms allow you to view recent transactions and check your available credit limit, however, there are some key differences between the two.

  • Update your personal details

    Hi,

I am looking at having a cosmetic medical procedure that will cost approx $12,000 in March 2016.

Can you confirm that if I sign up for a credit card this would qualify as an interest free purchase?

    Thanks

      Hi Kevin,

      Thanks for your question.

Coles list ineligible purchases as cash advances, credit fees or charges, credits, refunds, reimbursements, business purchases or balance transfers into your account. If you’re unsure, you may need to contact Coles on 1300 306 397 to confirm that your surgery is considered an eligible purchase.

      Cheers,

      Sally

      Hi Sharon,

The Coles MasterCard can be used anywhere MasterCard is accepted. However, it’ll earn more rewards points when used at Coles and partnered merchants.

Hi Jonathan, so far all of my transactions aren’t being classed as “Interest Free Purchases” when I view them through the online Coles Mastercard portal.

      Jonathan | December 4, 2015

Hi Desmond, thanks for your response.

If your transactions are not being classed as eligible purchases it would be ideal to contact Coles directly on 1300 306 397 to resolve the way your transactions are being charged. The operating hours are Mon-Fri 8.00am – 9.00pm, Saturday 8.00am – 8.00pm, Sunday 8.30am – 8.00pm.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

I wanted to take advantage of the “0% p.a. for 15 months” interest free offer advertised here however the link to the application returned a 404 error. I instead applied directly through Coles, got approved but have since found out that my transactions aren’t being classed as interest free transactions in my account. Is there something you need to do?

      Jonathan | December 2, 2015

Hi Roger, thanks for your inquiry!

The interest free promotion applies to any eligible purchases, which exclude transactions such as cash advances or cash equivalent transaction. To allow us to assist you further what types of transactions are not being classed as interest-free transactions?

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

Hi I posted a question recently re overseas transfer fees and was responded to by Jonathon. Can’t see my question there today but it was there yesterday. Anyway, I was told there would be no fees. However when checking my statement I find there is a cross border assessment fee of $40.08 plus an international transfer fee of $60.11. Why the charges? This a lot of additional cost!

    • Staff
      Jonathan | October 7, 2015

Hi Lynne, thanks for your response.

To clarify, the previous reply to your comment stated that international transfers would attract a cash advance rate of 19.99% p.a. with a cash advance fee of 3% of the cash advance/cash equivalent transaction or $1.95, whichever is greater. The Coles Rewards MasterCard has a 0% Foreign Currency Conversion Fee. In terms of the cross border assessment fee and international transfer, charges can vary depending on the merchant you are transacting with and can scope outside of the regular charges from Coles MasterCard. In these cases it is best to contact the merchant/store/service you are transacting with.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

I receive a disability support pension and a Carers pension the thing is I had a car which she was involved in an accident which someone rammed into the back of me. The car is a total lost to me and I need to replace that car with a second hand car. My bank hasn’t got back to me about my personal loan yet. But I am looking at applying for a coles credit card of up to $3,000 to $4,000. and I willing to pay it back over 3 to 4 year period on a fortnightly payments. Can I be able to get it or not?

    • Staff
      Jonathan | September 29, 2015

Hi Richard, thanks for your inquiry!

Coles generally requires a minimum income after tax income of at least $15,000 p.a. If you meet this requirement are 18 years or older and are an Australian resident or intend to stay in Australia for the next 12 months with visa permission then you will be eligible to apply. Please note that since finder.com.au is a comparison service and not Coles it would be best to contact them directly to inquire further about your approval for this credit card.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
