Complimentary insurance is a feature that gold and platinum level credit cardholders enjoy as standard. This is a breakdown what you can expect from both of these more prestigious credit cards.
Travel insurance:
Complimentary insurance for international travel is valid for gold and platinum cardholders, their spouses, and dependent children provided that, before leaving Australia, at least $950 of each travelling person’s prepaid travel costs, or 90% of each travelling person’s overseas travel ticket, is paid for by one or a combination of the following: the cardholder’s eligible credit card account, or; the redemption of the cardholder’s Commonwealth Awards points through the Commonwealth Awards Travel Service, excluding Qantas Frequent Flyer or Velocity points redemption.
Complimentary travel insurance for gold and platinum credit cards:
- International Travel Insurance (trips up to 3 months for gold credit cards, and trips up to 12 months for platinum credit cards; all trips returning to Australia)
Complimentary travel insurance extras for platinum credit cards:
- Interstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance – This complimentary insurance covers trip cancellation, flight delays, and lost or damaged luggage for trips up to 14 days when the entire cost of a return interstate flight is paid for with a Commonwealth platinum credit card. Under certain circumstances, the cardholder’s spouse and/or dependent children may also be covered.
- Transit Accident Insurance – Transit accident insurance covers against accidental death and injury whilst travelling internationally. It includes being a passenger in a plane, getting on and off one, travelling in a tourist bus, on a train, and on a ferry. The entire cost of the journey must be charged to the eligible credit card. Under certain circumstances, the cardholder’s spouse and/or dependent children may also be covered.
- Guaranteed Pricing Scheme – This complimentary insurance means that if you make a purchase and then find the same product advertised for a cheaper price, you can claim back the difference up to $500 if you act within 21 days of your purchase.
