Credit Cards Give the Benefit of Automatic Record Keeping
Posted October 19th, 2009 and last modified June 18th, 2010Have you ever been in a situation where you are not sure if you have paid a bill or not? Or if you have, when you paid it? This is quite a common occurrence with so many of our financial aspects being online now days.
It is not quite as easy to remember as driving to the telecom company and paying the bill in cash. One benefit that paying by credit card is that you get an automatic record keeping of all your transactions throughout the month.
It makes it so much easier than sifting through receipts trying to work out what was paid when or if too much was being spent. With a monthly statement it is a simple matter of running down the list and working out your expenses from there. So easy!
The importance of automatic record keeping
You might have automatic payments being made from your credit card for things like school fees or telephone bills, and if you can look up your bill you can see if these payments have been paid. That way you won’t have any embarrassing calls or phones being cut off. It is a simple matter of going online if you don’t want to wait for your statement and track whether the payments you are researching have in fact been paid. Not only that, you will have the date recorded for the payment as well. This is all so handy if you have anyone disputing a bill payment.
Detailed records
It is great to be able to keep track of payments, but is also helpful because your statements also have a record of your fees, interest charges and any payments that may have been made into your credit card.
When you don’t have bank statements it is easy to forget the interests and other fees that may have been charged, but they do need to be noted so that you can keep accurate records.
The simple process of being able to visually monitor all your transactions on a monthly account gives you a much better chance of being able to be in control of your finances. It only takes half a dozen payments of $60 – $70 throughout the year to add up, throwing out your budget.
As much as accurate automatic record keeping is an advantage, don’t forget that credit cards still carry a certain amount of risk. If they are not paid off each month they can become a very expensive habit.
