Find out why CUA credit cards are different. Understand the CUA ethos that puts its members before everything else.

CUA is different to a bank because it is a financial institution that is owned by its members, not any external shareholders. CUA members are at the centre of everything. CUA exists to help its members manage their changing financial circumstances for the better - for themselves, their families and their communities.

Unlike banks, where profits go to the shareholders, CUA profits are reinvested into offering members and the community a full range of flexible, competitive products and services. There are no transaction account-keeping fees, and 80% of CUA members don’t pay regular transaction fees.

There are two CUA credit cards - the CUA Low Rate MasterCard and CUA Rewards MasterCard . CUA also offers bank accounts, loans and other services that are flexible enough to change as the customer changes, plus employees who are committed to making a difference to the way Australians feel about their banking options.

With the CUA Low Rate MasterCard you get a low 13.60% p.a. interest rate on all purchases, cash advances and balance transfers, plus a choice of silver or gold card, with credit limits of up to $7,000 with a silver card or up to $25,000 with a gold card. The gold CUA credit card offers exclusive benefits such as free international travel insurance, free transit accident insurance, access to emergency travel assistance and higher levels of purchase cover. You also get up to 55 days interest-free on retail purchases, free additional cards and low annual fees.

With the CUA Rewards MasterCard, you get low fees, the option of Silver, Gold, and Card Services Qantas Rewards, and these CUA credit cards gives you a choice of over 300 items including cashback, flights, electronics, and shopping vouchers for Myer, David Jones, Target, Kmart and others.

Choosing a CUA credit card means you are taking control of your finances and dealing with an organisation that truly has your best interests at heart.

Making a CUA credit card application is an easy process, but you must satisfy certain criteria first, and you will need some personal and financial details to hand when filling out the online form.

Once you have checked out the features of each of the CUA credit cards, you are then in a position to decide which one you want to apply for.

Criteria to apply for a CUA credit card:

  • You must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • You must be a permanent Australian resident.
  • You must have a good credit history.
  • You must be earning at least $20,000 p.a. gross for a CUA Silver Low Rate MasterCard.
  • You must be earning at least $35,000 p.a. gross for a CUA Gold Low Rate MasterCard.

If you are applying for a CUA credit card online, the process should not take more than ten minutes. You will need certain information for CUA to be able to process your application:

  • Your driver's license number, if you have one.
  • Your employer's address and switch telephone number.
  • Your accountant's name, company name and phone number if you are self-employed.
  • The details of any additional cardholders you wish to include.
  • If you intend to make a balance transfer from another card, you must provide details of the card you would like the transfer to be made from, including the account name, the account number, and the amount you wish to transfer.

What happens next in the CUA credit card application process?

You will need to enter all the relevant information in the spaces marked with an asterisk*, and before you finally submit your application you will be able to check and amend anything you have input.

Once the application for a CUA credit card has been submitted, you will be informed within sixty seconds as to whether you are eligible in principle for the card. If CUA requires any more information from you, you will be informed of this later on.

If the ultimate decision is that you are eligible for a CUA credit card, you will need to undergo an identity check, which is mandated by the Australian government. You may also need to verify certain other information you have provided online.

After all the information has been fully verified, you will receive your CUA credit card and your PIN under separate cover. It only remains for you to activate it, and start using it.
