How To Get Shopping Discounts Using Credit Cards
Posted April 25th, 2010 and last modified November 22nd, 2011Most credit cards offer some form of reward program for their users. These days credit card discounts are becoming a popular form of credit card rewards, as opposed to traditional reward programs.
Credit card rewards programs
Most credit cards offer a rewards program. Every time the cardholder uses the card, he or she accumulates some points. These points can then be traded to obtain a reward, with each reward being equivalent to a certain number of points. The rate of point accumulation varies by card, with most cards offering one reward point per dollar spent, although some cards offer two points per dollar spent. In addition, card holders can earn more points by spending at “rewards partner” outlets or participating merchants.
However, different reward options are worth a differing number of points depending on the card. For instance, one credit card rewards program may offer a $100 gift card for 16,000 points, while another provider may offer the same gift card after 20,000 points have been accumulated. On top of that, different credit card rewards programs offer different rewards – for instance, one rewards program may offer a lot of travel-related rewards, while another rewards program may focus on offering household appliances as rewards.

There is a time lag between purchasing goods using a credit card, accumulating sufficient points, and then spending those points on a reward option. Additionally, some card providers have rather stringent rules about the redemption of points for rewards as well as the nature of rewards that are offered.
Many cardholders are interested in more instant discount rewards these days. Rather than wait for many months to receive a reward, they would rather receive credit card discounts for using their credit cards. These discounts help them save money immediately when shopping, rather than having to wait and be patient for a very long time before they can receive any reward.
Instant discount rewards are provided by a few credit card issuers – cardholders can receive a discount on the goods they purchase, when they pay with their credit cards. Credit card discounts are a great way for cardholders to enjoy the benefits of using their credit card.
A few store cards offer exceptional discounts when the card is used at the issuing stores, especially when the cards are first introduced into the market. However, these cards are rare and are notorious for their high interest rates and fees.
Banks and other financial institutions, on the other hand, prefer to offer traditional rewards programs rather than instant discount rewards. At the end of the day, cardholders are able to choose between the two types of rewards and select the option that they prefer.
