Tips to earning more Jetstar Dollars on your Jetstar MasterCard credit card

Reward credit cards seem to be rapidly growing in popularity. In fact many people choose their credit cards not just because of features such as low interest rates, or special annual fee promotions, but also on the strength and quality of the card’s rewards program. One very popular rewards and frequent flyer program at the moment is the Jetstar dollars rewards scheme.

What are Jetstar dollars?

Jetstar is a credit card provided by Macquarie Bank, and like many other rewards programs offers customers rewards points when they use the credit card for transactions. After a certain amount of points have been accrued customers can then exchange points for many different products and services, as well as air travel.

So what makes Jetstar dollars special?

Many reward credit cards offer customers points each time they spend on the card, however Jetstar offer a cent for every dollar that you spend on the card. In other words you get a dollar for every hundred that you spend or $2 per $100 spent if you use the Jetstar Platinum MasterCard. The great thing about this reward scheme is that you do not even have to do anything to redeem your points. Jetstar will automatically send you a voucher when you receive $100 worth of points. Once you have your points you are then ready to save some money on air travel. The beauty of the Jetstar dollars is that you do not have to use them to pay for the whole journey if you do not wish to. You can pay for some of the travel with your vouchers, and the rest with your credit card.

Earn double points if your platinum

As a platinum card holder you are entitled to double the dollars, so you get 2 cents for every dollar spent. If you spend regularly on your credit card then you are going to rack up the points pretty quickly.

How can I earn more points?

One question that comes up whenever we talk about reward credit cards is, how can customers earn even more points with the card? There are a number of tactics but a couple of the most effective are described below:
Use your credit card for everything – No we have not gone crazy, and please read the rest of this before going and “maxing” out your card.
This strategy will only work as long as you are disciplined and stick to the rules. The idea is that you use your credit card for everyday purchases. In other words if you are going to fill you car with fuel, you use your credit card to pay for it.
If you are doing your weekly grocery shop, you use your credit card to pay for it. Even if you are going to pay a bill, then why not use your credit card to pay for it. The more you spend on your card the more reward points or dollars you are going to accrue.
The key to this whole system however is paying your full credit card balance off each month so that you side step interest charges. The moment you allow your card to become liable for interest charges is when you start losing money.
In order for you to make the most of this tactic you have to make sure you will have the money to pay off your credit card bill at the end of the month. If you were going to make a non essential purchase, and do not think you will have the money to pay it off at the end of the month then slam your breaks on and do not make the purchase.
You can spend as much as you want using your Jetstar card, but only as long as you can pay the balance off in full before interest charges strike.
Pay for some of the travel redeemed on your credit card – As an extension to the first tactic, if you are planning on using some of your reward dollars to pay towards some air travel, why not spend half of the dollars on the fare and pay the rest on your credit card.
That way you will make back some of the points you will have redeemed for part of your travel.
As far as credit card rewards programs go, there are many different offers available, and to be honest some of them are very hit and miss. Jetstar have come up with a really enticing program, and coupled with their very competitive credit card deals, this is one reward program you should really give some serious consideration.
