Are you looking for a low rate or a platinum credit card? Take a look at what FCCS has to offer

A small group of Ford Motor Company employees in Geelong established the FCCS Credit Union in 1974, primarily to offer financial services to employees of Geelong Ford and their family members. It merged with the Ford Broadmeadows Employee Credit Union in 1984. In 1990, another merger took place with Commercial Credit Co-operative Ltd. Geelong, and this merger saw membership open to the public at large. FCCS Credit Union has branches in Geelong, Campbellfield and Granville, offering its members an array of financial services and products, which include two credit cards from MasterCard.

Types of credit cards FCCS offers

Irrespective of whether you want to earn rewards and benefit through other add-ons, or simply benefit through a low interest rate card, FCCS might have something to offer you.

  • Low rate credit cards

One of the biggest advantages of a low rate credit card is the low interest rate on offer, but some low rate cards offer little in the form of additional features. The MyCard Low Rate MasterCard that FCCS offers comes with a special limited period balance transfer offer, where you can take advantage of up to  interest-free days on purchases, and you can get as many as four additional cards. If you apply by a given date, you can look forward to paying a discounted annual fee for the life of the card.

Learn more about Platinum Credit Cards

Benefits of banking with FCCS

Both credit cards that FCCS offer come with a MasterCard association, and this allows you to use your card globally. Other benefits depend on the card you choose:

  • Complimentary insurance covers

Cardholders get additional peace of mind through a guaranteed pricing scheme and purchase cover insurance with both of these credit cards. If you opt for the MyCard Platinum MasterCard you also get complimentary international travel insurance, interstate flight inconvenience insurance and transit accident insurance.

  • Concierge service

With the MyCard Platinum MasterCard you will receive access to the Platinum Concierge Service. This service sees you receive information about restaurants as well as sporting, cultural, and entertainment events, and also make reservations. You can use this service to get travel-related information, for shopping, and also for an array of executive services.

  • Introductory rates

While the low rate card offers  interest on balance transfers for  months, the platinum card comes with a 0% p.a. interest for 14 months, which covers balance transfers as well as purchases. You cannot transfer balances exceeding 80% of your credit limit, and this offer applies only if you initiate the balance transfer process at the time of application. At the end of the introductory period, any outstanding balance from balance transfers attracts the given card’s cash advance rate, and leftover balances from purchases attract the ongoing purchase rate.

How to apply for an FCCS credit card

You can apply for an FCCS credit card by visiting a branch or applying over the phone. To start an online application, simply click the ‘Go to Site’ button next to the credit card of your choice. Applying for an FCCS credit card requires that you fulfil the following eligibility criteria.

Eligibility criteria

  • You are at least 18 years of age
  • You have good credit rating
  • You are a permanent resident of Australia

The application requires that you submit a copy of your driver’s licence, Medicare card and proof of your income. You have to furnish a host of information to complete the application, which includes the following.

Required documents

  • Personal information. The application requires your complete name, date of birth, marital status, number of dependents, home address, phone number and email address.
  • Monthly financial position. For this section you need to provide information about your income and expenses. This includes monthly living expenses, other recurring expenses and details surrounding existing loans, credit cards, lines of credit, and overdrafts.
  • Professional details. These include your employment status and your current employer’s name and contact details.

What happens after submitting the application?

Once you submit your application, an FCCS representative will get in touch with you if any more information is required. Calling your employer’s payroll department for income verification is the norm, and you can help expedite the process by informing your payroll ahead of time. If you’re a new member with FCCS you’ll have to undergo an identity verification process. To do this you might have to visit a branch.
