Frequent Flyer Card – Compare Frequent Flyer Cards

Posted May 14th, 2010 and last modified June 27th, 2011

Are you interested in travel? If so, you might like to consider a prestige credit card which offers great service and bonuses, as well as the ability to earn Frequent Flyer miles – the Frequent Flyer card.

Quite simply, a Frequent Flyer card is a premium credit card and is usually a gold or platinum card. Along with the other benefits that a prestige credit card like a platinum or gold card offers, such as free insurance and other perks, a Frequent Flyer card allows users to earn Frequent Flyer miles, which they can then convert into airline tickets. Of course, reward points earned by using a Frequent Flyer card can be used for more than just air travel – many cards allow the option of redeeming the points for other things such as non-travel related items, or alternative travel services like hotel or motel bookings and car rentals. Many Frequent Flyer cards offer exclusive services to their users such as access to airline private lounges in airports, free limousine rides to the airport, and more.

ANZ Frequent Flyer

Featured Frequent Flyer Credit Card Offer

The ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card is a dual credit card. It offers you both an AMEX credit card and a Visa, under one shared account and annual fee. Use your VISA for global acceptance worldwide, and your American Express card for greater points earning potential, earning you more Qantas Frequent Flyer points for your purchases

  • $95 annual fee
  • 19.74% p.a. on purchases
  • Cash Advance Rate of 20.99% p.a.
  • 44 days interest free
  • Minimum Income Requirement of $15,000 p.a.

Because Frequent Flyer cards are prestige credit cards, they are usually associated with high annual fees and other charges. This means that you need to use your card quite a bit each year to justify paying such high fees. In addition, since most of these cards are gold or platinum cards, you need to have a minimum annual income to qualify for the card, usually above 50,000 AUD per year. On top of that, you also need to have an above average credit rating.

Before you obtain a Frequent Flyer card, you need to be sure that it will suit your needs. Frequent Flyer cards are not for everyone. In particular, people who will not get the best use out of a Frequent Flyer card include:

  1. People with travel phobias

If you hate travelling, you should not obtain a Frequent Flyer card. In particular, if you are scared of air travel you should steer clear of these cards. Although many Frequent Flyer cards offer non-travel rewards, you would be better off with a simple rewards card than a Frequent Flyer card; the most lucrative rewards and services on these cards are all travel-related.

  2. People who tend to overspend

If you own a Frequent Flyer card, you will find it quite tempting to spend a lot to earn air miles and other rewards. This is not such a problem for people who are fairly disciplined in their spending habits. However, if you are unhappy with your existing spending behaviour and wish to spend less, you should not obtain a Frequent Flyer card.

  3. Poor credit risks or people with lower annual income

A high annual income and great credit rating are required for obtaining a Frequent Flyer card – if these two criteria do not apply to you, you will find it difficult to obtain a Frequent Flyer card.

If you don’t fall into any of these three categories, you might find that a Frequent Flyer card is the perfect credit card for you.
