GE Money is the consumer finance division of General Electric. Currently one of the largest consumer finance companies in the world, they also offer a range of credit cards. This articles discusses some of the GE Money credit cards in the market.

GE Money was established in the 1930s as the consumer finance division of General Electric, the American industrial giant. Since then GE Money has grown into one of the largest financial services provider in the world. Among their range of products credit cards are also included. The following is a brief outline of the some the credit cards currently on offer and their salient features.

Eco MasterCard

For the environmentally conscious this a great reward card. You can earn reward points worth 1c for every dollar spent on the card. As part of the reward program you can choose between two options of redeeming your reward points:

  1. Half in cash-back (crediting your card account) and half in carbon offsets (bought to reduce your carbon footprint).
  2. Full amount in carbon offsets - this way you make the most contribution to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and finding alternative, renewable sources of energy which are cleaner for the environment than petroleum.

In addition to these innovative reward options this card also features:

  • 55 days interest free for purchases.
  • 0% balance transfer for a period of 6 months.

Clear Advantage Card

A card provided only through the post or online, it features no annual fees. Unlike most other credit cards which charge a much higher interest on cash withdrawals the Clear Advantage card charges the same interest rate for purchases and cash advances. Like other cards however, the interest is applied from the date of cash withdrawal, i.e., interest free period is only available for purchases.

GE Money Low Rate MasterCard

Featuring low interest rates on purchases, this card has an annual fee of $58, and can include nine other cardholders in the same account. Other benefits include 55 days interest free on purchases, and a low balance transfer rate for 6 months.

GE Money MasterCard

Perfect for individuals with moderate earning levels, this card has low credit limits and annual fees.

GO MasterCard

This card provides extended financing options for large ticket purchases such as household white goods. You can have no-interest payment terms for 48 months, and even no-repayments for 12 months depending on the retailer.

The range of GE Money credit cards is quite broad, and they provide some features such as extended financing which is found nowhere else.

GE Money have a unique set of credit cards. If utilized correctly, they can be fairly beneficial and cheap. However as they all feature very high interest rates, you’ll need to manage them very carefully in order to avoid getting stung.
62 interest free days can be a curse as much as a blessing, if you miss the grace period you’ll be hit instantly with a high rate of interest accumulation.
