Virgin Australia free flights

Find out how to redeem your complimentary Virgin Australia flight now!

As of April 2016, there is a new Virgin Money credit card flight deal. What used to be a 50% discount on flights when you flew with a friend, or essentially a two-for-one fare deal, has now morphed into an annual gift voucher worth $129. While you could have enjoyed up to four free flights a year before (if your friend paid for their ticket and let you soak up the whole perk), now you’ll only get one-and-a-part flight free (depending on the Virgin Australia fares when you use this offer). The upside: you don’t have to travel with that friend anymore, if you don’t want to that is.

What free Virgin Australia benefits do I get with my credit card?

These are your new perks, depending on the card you hold:

Your complimentary $129 voucher can be used towards booking Virgin Australia flights on all fare types including sale fares. It can also be used on selected Virgin Australia Holidays’ packages. Be mindful to use the voucher within six months of its issue date, though. Here’s how:

Step 1: Make sure you’re eligible.

  • Your credit card is activated and it has been 30 days since your card approval date or the anniversary of your card approval date.
  • You’ve charged at least one retail purchase to your credit card in the two months before requesting your voucher.
  • Your account is not temporarily blocked or in default.
  • You have not successfully requested a gift voucher in the anniversary period.
  • You must be an active Velocity frequent flyer member and your Velocity membership number must be linked to your credit card.

Step 2: Make sure your details are updated.

  • Ensure the details you enter when you request the voucher perfectly match the details in your credit card account, including your email address and phone number.
  • You may check and update your details by logging in to Virgin Money Online or by calling Customer Care at 13 37 39. Note that you’ll need to wait 10 days after making any changes to request your gift voucher.

Step 3: Request your voucher.

  • Go to Virgin Money Online and follow the link to request your voucher. You will need to fill in and submit a request form.
  • You should receive your gift voucher via email within five business days. It will be attached as a PDF format document that you can then download.

Step 4: Use your voucher.

  • Book your flights online at Virgin Australia, or call 13 67 89 to make a booking. Bear in mind that fees apply to phone bookings while online bookings are free.
  • Book holiday packages by calling Virgin Australia Holidays on 13 15 16.
  • Before making a payment, enter or quote your unique Voucher Number (which is stated on your gift voucher) to redeem the $129 towards your booking.

Hi, I know the offer of 4′free’ flights does not roll over year to year and when signing up for this card it wasn’t until I actually got the book that I realised I had to take someone with me – a big feat for a solo traveller, so unfortunately I’ve never been able to use this reward.
Next year 2 friends and I are going to New Zealand and I am interested if I can use this offer as part of the deal with 1 fare being paid fully? Also if I were to as well use a voucher/s when booking these flights by phone would they each incur the $30 fee….I was led to believe there is no fee when using vouchers. (as in Jetstar/Qantas and using their credit card.)

      Hi Barb,

      Thanks for your questions.

If the offer has expired, you may not be able to use it. I would suggest you contact Virgin directly to confirm this query.

As stated on Virgin Australia’s Gift Voucher Terms of Use webpage, if you redeem your voucher over the phone via the Guest Contact Centre, you will incur the Guest Contact Centre fee.

I hope this has answered your question.

does this include international flights to London

    • Staff
      Jonathan | May 11, 2015

Hi Chrissy, thanks for your inquiry!

Unfortunately the flight must be domestic, and is limited to Saver, Flexi and Business Fare classes. You may like to refer to the following link for frequent flyer cards and offers.

With the Virgin TWO41 deal, I am confused by how many times a year it can be used.
Could you tell me how many return non stop flights my wife and I could take from Melbourne to Cairns each year using the TWO41?
The offer covers 4 flight segments so if my wife and I go to Cairns that would be 4 segments and so the offer would only cover one flight.(2 segments to get up and back X 2 people = 4 segments)
    Can you help?

    • Staff
      Jonathan | March 19, 2015

Hi Ian, thanks for your inquiry!

The TWO41 flight offer provides up to four flight segments in a year. As such a return flight would qualify as 2 segments, so if you were to go to Cairns with your wife that would count as 4 segments, effectively covering one return flight each.

      I hope this has helped.

      Thanks Jonathon,
Your answer to me seems different to the reply you made to Kathleen on March 3, 2015 where you told her 50% 4 times per year. It is actually 1 return flight for two per year, not 4 as you told her?

    • Staff
      Jonathan | March 19, 2015

Hi Ian, thanks for your response.

To fully clarify the TWO41 promotion covers 4 flight sectors, providing 50% off the base fare component of a domestic Virgin Australia Saver Fare (excluding taxes, Booking and Service fees) for the Primary Cardholder and a friend when flying together on the same booking and paid with an eligible Virgin Australia Velocity Credit Card. Each sector is defined as a non-stop flight, so flights with pitt-stop’s are classified as two flight sectors. If you have any other inquiries in regards to this offer please refer to the terms and conditions I have provided to your email.

How much of a discount is offered when using the complimentary flights?
Is it one booking per credit card and when a booking is made via the complimentary flights, is that booking secure and definite or is it a matter of chance that there is seats available at the time of arriving at the airport?

    • Staff
      Jonathan | March 4, 2015

Hi Kathleen, thanks for your inquiry!

Virgin offers an exclusive discount of 50% off the base fare of a domestic Virgin Australia saver fare. Bookings can be made for the primary cardholder and a friend and paid with an eligible Virgin Australia Velocity Credit Card up to 4 times a year. Bookings must be made 30 days in advance.

      I hope this has helped.

Thank you for your reply. Can you please tell me if I was to book a complimentary flight, would my booking be secure or would I be taking a chance arriving at the airport hoping there were available seats?
Also is there a minimum spending amount on the card before I could make use of the complimentary flights?

    • Staff
      Jonathan | March 5, 2015

Hi Kathleen, thanks for your response.

The booking would be secure and would guarantee you the seating requested on the flight. To qualify for the complimentary flights the card would need to be active with the annual fee paid. There is no minimum spend required.

How do I book a flight using m Virgin Flyer Credit Card points? I have 57,994. Is this enough to get a return flight to Melbourne? Thanks Barbara

    • Staff
      Shirley | April 22, 2014

      Hi Barbara,

      Thanks for your question.

You certainly can use your points to book a Velocity flights. I’m not sure if you have enough to get a return flight to Melbourne as I don’t know where you’re flying from.

To use your points, you can choose the ‘use my points’ option when booking Virgin flights on their official website. Alternatively, you can login into your rewards account and click ‘redeem’.

To book use the complimentary flight, requires booking over the phone? And this attracts a $30 per person per booking fee?

    • Staff
      Marc | June 20, 2013

      Hello Dave,
      thanks for the question!

This is correct, flights must be booked by phoning the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre and booking and service fees apply to both guests and are no discounted. This fee is $35 per person per booking, according to the Virgin Australia website.

I have been told by a friend that you can only book your flight online if you have a Virgin Flyer Credit Card, is this correct?

Or can you book online as all other bookings?

    • Staff
      Jacob | June 14, 2013

Hi Coralie. Thanks for your question. To redeem the free flights offer, you can only pay for the flight with the Virgin Velocity Flyer and High Flyer card, Virgin Australia gift vouchers, and Virgin Australia credit notes. Hope this helps. Let us know if there are any other questions. Jacob.
