HSBC Bank Overview

HSBC began as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Limited. While the intention was to assist in China to Europe commerce they soon move into the Australian market and made a name for themselves here. HSBC continues to deliver top quality banking and financial products to Australians which is a good indication that they are with us to stay.

HSBC is a popular bank in Australia, so popular that you might not realise it actually started in 1865 as the Hong Kong and Shanghai Limited. The original aim of the company was to provide financial strategies for the commerce between China and Europe. It has grown a great deal since then with one of its’ major subsidiaries being HSBC Bank Australia Limited.

HSBC in Australia began in 1965 with the establishment of the HSBC Finance Company Limited. In 1981 they added the HSBC Asset Limited and was given authority to be a real bank in 1986. This was the first time that the Australian government gave a foreign bank permission to establish a bank here. At that same time they also began offering commercial financial services. Within five years that had begun adding trade services and in 1995 they began offering home loans and consolidated consumers statements. The next year they were able to offer an ATM/EFTPOS card to clients.

In the late 1990′s HSBC added some of the cornerstones of modern banking including credit cards, telephone banking, financial planning services and becoming a global banking brand. They have been rewarded for their pioneering efforts and banking achievements with success and rewards including winning the prestigious Best Foreign Bank award.

In 2001 HSBC acquired the NRMA Building Society Limited. At the same time they opened branches in Maroubra, North Ryde, and Bondi Junctions. In a move toward advancing themselves in the modern world of the Internet the launched a personal online banking site in 2001. They were innovators again the next year when they launched the DocumentExpress service which won an award for the best new product of 2002.

Again in 2003 HSBC continued to grow in branches and in scope of products. They won awards for the Best New Product for their Cash Management Account and for Best Website for www.hsbc.com.au.

More important then winning awards HSBC has established itself within the community through charitable works. Their partnered with the Royal Botanic Gardens and the Hawthorne Football Club to create the Towards Sustainable Horticulture Environmental Program as a way of giving back to Australia.

      thanks for the question.

There are many organisations which offer credit cards to those with a discharged bankruptcy. These options can include secured credit cards, which are more accessible than regular credit cards but come with certain conditions. This page might be helpful in showing some possible ways of repairing credit ratings, and the different options that may be available.

This page explains other tips which may help fix a bad credit file after bankruptcy, and may also be of some help.

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.
