HSBC Credit Card Review

The HSBC Credit Card provides an opportunity to have a credit card that works completely in your favour for a change. If you want to avoid paying an annual fee, then this card is the perfect choice. This $0 fee is not an introductory offer, but is set for the life of the card. As long as you have the card, you will not pay an annual fee. This means having this credit card can be totally cost-free if you also manage to pay off your credit card each month, thus avoiding interest charges.

More than this, the HSBC Credit Card a balance transfer offer that allows you to transfer a debt from another credit card and pay 0% p.a. for 6 months.

Information needed to apply for an HSBC Credit Card:

The following information will be required in your application for an HSBC Credit Card, which should take no more than 10 to 15 minutes:

  • Your personal details
  • Your contact details
  • Your employment details
  • Your income and expenditure details

As a security measure, leaving your application unattended for more than 20 minutes will cause it to be cancelled and the information lost. You should allow between 5 and 10 working days for your application to be processed once submitted.

Criteria for an HSBC Credit Card:

Your application for an HSBC Credit Card depends on your fulfilling the following criteria:

  • You should be 18 years of age or over
  • Your should possess a good credit rating
  • You should be a permanent resident of Australia
  • You should be earning a minimum taxable income of $20,000 p.a.

The Terms and Conditions of the card and what they mean

Condition What it means
0% p.a. for 6 months p.a Interest rate on balance transfers applies and is limited to the first balance transfer request per account from other store cards or non-HSBC credit cards. After this period, any balance outstanding from the Balance Transfer will accrue interest at the Interest Rate for Cash Advances, currently 20.75% p.a. (Rates subject to change). You may only transfer one balance from a non-HSBC or store credit card at any one time. If you have not paid off your balance within the promotional balance transfer period (0% p.a. for 6 months), the remaining balance left will be paid off at
20.75% p.a.
~HSBC may allocate payments we receive from you to pay the total amount owing in any order we see fit including applying any and all payments made to your HSBC credit card account to reduce the balance(s) transferred first and then to any subsequent purchases. These are typical conditions of credit cards with interest free periods.
^ Depending on when you make your purchase, when your statement is issued and whether or not you are carrying forward a balance on your account from the previous statement period. There are no interest free days for cash advances or balance transfers. Check your date of signup to know when you need to repay. Keep this in your diary as a point of reminder. Cash advances don’t have interest free days, so potentially consider an alternative option for cash advances.
