Types of credit cards from Jetstar

The Jetstar credit card could be of value to frequent flyers of the airline.

Jetstar offer two credit cards: The Jetstar MasterCard is their standard product, while the Platinum MasterCard goes one further with a higher earn rate and a wider breadth of features. The Jetstar Platinum MasterCard offers complimentary travel and purchase insurance, MasterCard Platinum Privileges and complimentary Qantas frequent flyer membership. Both cards reward you with Jetstar Dollars when you spend. You also have the choice of opting-in to the Qantas Program and earning Qantas Points.

  • Rewards credit cards

The Jetstar Rewards MasterCard is an entry level rewards / frequent flyer credit card. Earn Jetstar Dollars when you spend and pay a low annual fee. Compare the Jetstar MasterCard by the earn rate, annual fee and additional perks. Big spenders may want to choose a product with fewer restrictions as there is a cap on the number of Jetstar Dollars and Qantas Points you can earn with this card — there’s also a fee for opting into the Qantas Program.

  • Platinum credit cards

Platinum rewards credit cards give you points and all the bells and whistles. Platinum cards have a higher earn rate, fewer restrictions like the cap on points and complimentary insurances — to name a few benefits — although these platinum features come at the price of a higher annual fee and higher rates of interest. For every dollar you spend on the Jetstar Platinum MasterCard, you can earn twice as many Jetstar Dollars or Qantas Points than the Jetstar MasterCard. The cap on the number of points you can earn is significantly higher, too.

      Sally | March 16, 2016

      Hi Colin,

      Thanks for your question.

As a financial comparison service, we can’t confirm exactly why your credit card application was rejected.

However, it could’ve been for a number of reasons including your income, credit history or the supporting documents you provided. Looking over our guide on Why was my credit card application rejected? might help you narrow down the possible factors.

In the mean time, take some time comparing other credit cards before applying. Multiple rejected applications will have a negative impact on your credit file and will further reduce your chances of acceptance. Instead, make sure to spend a few months comparing your options and confirming that you meet the eligibility requirements before applying.

      I hope this has helped.

      Cheers,

      Sally

Hi Susan, thanks for your inquiry!

Unfortunately balance transfers are only permitted between cards of the same country. As a result balance transferring your UK credit card balance to an Australian card will not be possible.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

I am looking to apply for the Jerstar credit card to do a balance transfer and also buy some air tickets as they have a 12 month interest free on tickets over 600aud until the beginning of Dec 15. But I hv been reading that you should not use the credit that you intent to do a balance transfer with 0% interest. Will I still get 0% interest If I apply, get approved for balance transfer, then by tickets?

Hi Paula, thanks for your inquiry!

That is correct. If you are going to transfer a balance to a credit card you will not receive any interest free days/ interest free purchases unless that credit card specifically has a 0% purchase offer. In regards to the 12 month interest free on tickets over AUD$600 it is important to check the terms of the purchase promotion, to determine whether signing up for a Jetstar credit card is required in order to receive the ticket offer.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,
      Jonathan

Are you still eligible to earn frequent flyer points per year, on the Premium MasterCard, if the card is used predominately for business expenses?
Is there a maximum number of points that can be earned per year?

    • Staff
      Jonathan | September 14, 2015

Hi Peter, thanks for your inquiry!

As long as your business expenses qualify as eligible purchases you will earn frequent flyer points on these transactions. The Jetstar Platinum MasterCard has a maximum points cap of 100,000 points per year. You may like to compare other frequent flyer credit cards and offers.

Do any of the Jetstar cards cover hire car insurance or travel insurance?

    • Staff
      Sally | August 25, 2015

      Hi Nicci,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Just to confirm, you have come through to finder.com.au, not Jetstar.

However, we can confirm that the Jetstar Platinum MasterCard offers complimentary insurance including overseas travel insurance and a global vehicle hire excess waiver. For more details, kindly refer to this page.

      I hope this has helped.

      Cheers,

      Sally

    Hi there.
Can you please clarify “government charges” when it comes to the Jetstar dollar rewards program.
Currently I earn reward points with another bank for paying utility bills etc.
Will these payments count towards my Jetstar dollars. Thanks.

      Jonathan | May 18, 2015

Hi Michael, thanks for your inquiry!

Government charges include transactions such as payments to the Australian Tax Office. If your utility bill transactions qualify as ‘eligible purchases’ then Jetstar rewards points/ dollars will be earned accordingly. For more clarification on ‘government charges’ please refer to the Jetstar MasterCard Rewards team I have sent to your email.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan

Hi, How long are the vouchers valid for? As they appear to be issued automatically. Can you stop the automatic issue of these vouchers? As we travel only once a year.
    Thanks

Hi Vicki, thanks for your inquiry!

Please note that lenders have individual lending policies. Each lender will need to assess your financial and personal situation to be able to advise on your options and eligibility. The application requirements for each credit card are available on the table by clicking on the ‘Application Requirements’ button. For a list of Qantas Frequent Flyer Credit Cards please see this page.
