Lost luggage protection:
If you make it to your destination but your luggage doesn’t, you will be in luck if you used a Visa Signature Card to book your airline ticket. For some cardholders, they will receive up to $3000 in lost luggage protection on top of what the airline will cover for the value of the lost baggage. If you used your American Express card for the trip, then you will have to purchase lost luggage protection for $9.95 for each trip and person.
Travel delay protection:
It can happen so easily – delayed, overbooked and cancelled flights, not to mention missed connections. When these events occur your expenses can be phenomenal. If you sign up for the American Express travel delay protection you will be reimbursed for expenses such as food, transportation and hotel stays if your flight is delayed for more than three hours. You can receive up to $50 per day for this. If you cannot get on another alternative flight before 9 PM, you can receive up to $200 per day. You will be covered for these expenses as long as the airline does not cover them.
Like the lost luggage protection, American Express will also charge you $9.95 every time you fly automatically.
It is important to keep all of your receipts for food, hotel stays, transportation costs and any other necessities for reimbursement. You will also need a copy of the ticket stubs from the airline, and records of your credit card statement that show the charge for Travel Delay protection and the charge for your ticket.
The American Express Platinum credit card offers both lost luggage and travel delay protection. If you are looking for a Platinum card, then this card should be considered if you are a frequent traveller.
Lost luggage protection can give you that extra peace of mind while you are travelling, and travel delay protection will ease the stress when you miss a flight for one reason or another. They are an important feature you should look for when you are considering a credit card.
