Benefits of getting a credit card from The Mac

The Mac is a credit union, and as such develops their products and services with their members in mind. Look forward to highly competitive products, including their credit cards, that offer a number of distinct benefits.

  • Easy access to funds

MasterCard is not only a globally recognised credit card issuer, but they’re also globally accepted. Look forward to using your card at millions of locations worldwide. You can make contactless purchases for transactions under $100, use your card to withdraw funds at ATMs (just be aware of the cash advance fees) and use it online and over the phone.

  • Secure spending

If you’re looking to be protected when you spend with your card, The Mac has you covered. Purchase cover insurance and a guaranteed pricing scheme offer protection to both Low Rate and Platinum cardholders. Your card comes with an embedded microchip and as a MasterCard, your transactions will be monitored for unusual activity. When you use your card to spend online, SecureCode will provide that extra layer of security you need.

  • Premium services

All platinum cardholders get 24/7 access to a platinum concierge service that can assist you in areas such as travel, entertainment, shopping, and executive services. You can turn to this service to get information about different modes of travel and also make reservations. You can use it for hotel reservations and restaurant reservations, for information and logistical arrangements on gifts, and for interpretation and translation services.

Applying for a credit card through The Mac

You can apply for a MyCard MasterCard by visiting any Mac branch, you can initiate the process over the phone, or you can download an application from the Mac website and post, email, or fax the completed application. Before you begin, make sure you meet the following application criteria.

Application Criteria

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You are a permanent resident of Australia
  • You don’t have bad credit history
  • Income $25,000 p.a. or over required for the low rate card, and $35,000 p.a. or over required for the platinum card

While the application does not take long to complete, it requires that you have access to different types of information. Prepare to part with the following.

  • Personal details - The first section requires information such as your name, address and contact information.
  • Financial details - Provide information detailing your income, assets, debts and liabilities.
  • Professional details - Select your employment status and provide your employer’s name and contact details. If self-employed or retired, provide the name and contact details of your accountant.

After submitting the application

Once you submit your application a Card Services rep might get in touch with you for additional information. If you’re not an existing Mac member you’ll have to become one to get your card. New members have to go through an identity verification process, which is a legal requirement.

Frequently asked questions

If you have a question about Mac credit cards you might find the answer below. If not, feel free to ask us using the form at the end of the page.

How long does it take for me to receive my MasterCard?

The entire process of reviewing your application, processing it, and dispatching your card can take up to three weeks.

What repayment options do I have?

Setting up automatic repayments using just about any Australian savings or transaction account is one way to make repayments, and this takes away the need to remember making payments each month. You can also turn to online and phone banking, post cheques, or make payments by visiting a Mac branch.

What credit limit can I expect?

Your credit limit depends on your existing financial situation. The minimum credit limit of the low rate card is $2,000, and it is $6,000 for the platinum card.

Can I request for an increase in credit limit?

You can submit an application for an increase in your card’s credit limit, but approval depends on your meeting certain credit criteria.

Is there a limit on balance transfers?

The minimum you can transfer is $500, and transferred balances cannot exceed 80% of your card’s credit limit.

When do I apply for a balance transfer?

Provide all the relevant details during the application process, or when you hear about your card’s conditional approval.

How do I get an additional card?

You can request for an additional card linked to your primary card by visiting a Mac branch, on the phone, or online. You can get up to four additional cards.

How do I earn reward points and how do I found out how many points I have?

You earn reward points when you use your Platinum MasterCard to make eligible purchases, which exclude cash advances, balance transfers and the like. To find out your points balance, take a look at your credit card statement or call Card Services directly.

Is there a limit to the number of reward points I can earn and do they expire?

Yes, there is a limit but no they do not expire. Every year you’re able to earn up to 100,000 points. And as long as your account remains in good standing your points won’t expire.
