In order to accrue flybuys points you will need to join the program and link it to your NAB flybuys Rewards Card. The program is free to join and can be done by calling flybuys.

Once you have joined the program you will accrue points at a rate of 1:1 for every dollar spent on your everyday purchases. Every time you use your card to make a purchase you will earn this rate but there are some things that you won’t be able to earn flybuys points for.

  • Ineligible purchases include:

    • Bills paid over the counter at a bank, financial institution or post office;
    • Purchases of travellers cheques;
    • Gambling transactions;
    • When the card is used as a debit card to access linked accounts;
    • Business or investment transactions;
    • Fees and charges;
    • Interest charges;
    • Fraudulent or disputed transactions; and
    • Payments or purchases which are refunded.

There’s further opportunities to earn extra points when you use your card at participating flybuys retailers, including shops like: Coles, K-Mart, Target, Liquorland and many more. And although it does say bills paid over the counter at a bank, financial institution or post office don’t attract flybuys points, AGL  are a participating partner, so you will be able to earn points for paying your household electricity bill if they are your provider. Points are capped at per year.

Pros:

For $65, this card offers more than it takes. 7 types of insurance, platinum concierge, good rate of earning, their is a lot to like about this card.

Cons:

This card has a high purchase rate of interest compared to other cards in the market.
A minimum credit limit of $60,000 coupled with a cap on points earning at $100,000 spend is restrictive when compared to some of the other offers in the market.

This would be good for:

This card is ideal for someone who is looking to get the Platinum experience while paying minimum fees and charges. Hi Tom. Thanks for your question. The minimum credit limit is the minimum amount of credit that is assigned to your account. You’re under no obligation to use the credit that’s assigned to you. Cheers.

    Hi, if my husband gets approved, are we able to get my name on a second card?

    • Staff
      Jacob | February 15, 2013

      Hi Lauren. Thanks for your question. If you wish to become a supplementary cardholder, the card will still be in your husbands name; however, you will get your own card to use. All spending and rewards will be credited to your husbands account. If you want a card in your own name, you will have to apply yourself. Cheers.

    Have a NAB flybuy rewards card but its a Mastercard. Do the same features apply? I.E. travel insurance ?

    • Staff
      Marc | March 12, 2013

      Hello Diane,
      thanks for your question.

      Your MasterCard is an older Flybuys card NAB offered, which has now been replaced by the Visa card, meaning you could receive a letter in the mail talking about the change and offering an upgrade. The features including travel insurances should still apply to your MasterCard, although it’s best to call NAB with your card number to double check.

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.

    I’ve also got a flybuys Rewards MasterCard, not a Visa. It is definitely not an older product of NAB, as I signed up in mid-February. I have noticed it isn’t promoted on the NAB website and now it makes me curious whether it does offer the same benefits as the VISA?

      Hi Mike. This is an interesting question. We spoke to a NAB rep last week – they said the features are the same between cards. Can you please speak to NAB and let us know how the matter goes? Jacob.

    Does travel insurance cover persons over the age of 75?

    • Staff
      Marc | March 25, 2013

      Hello Terry,
      thanks for the question.

      The insurance policies provided by the NAB Flybuys card do provide some cover to those aged over 75 and under 90, although this doesn’t include medical or dental cover or cover of overseas bed care, travel delay, resumption of overseas journeys or return of rental vehicles as a result of medical and dental issues. There are still many things this insurance will cover for over 75s, such as journey cancellation, loss of luggage or personal effects, personal liability, rental vehicle damage, accidental death and missed special event cover. For more information it may be useful to visit the NAB website or call them.

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.
