Net Worth Calculator WordPress Plug-in
You may have heard the phrase ‘net worth’ bandied about but have never been quite sure of what it is or why people need to know about it.
Like all things financial, unless you work in that domain, many of the terms can be slightly confusing, or has people asking what the point of it all is. Here we hope to clarify a few things for you, and with our handy Net Worth Calculator Plugin help you on your way to financial stability heaven.
What Does Net Worth Mean?
According to Financial Dictionary the definition of net worth is: ‘The amount by which a company or individual’s assets exceed their liabilities.’ In other words, what you own after you’ve deducted what you owe.
Calculating your net worth is quick and easy to do, once you have all your financial information to hand, and with our Net Worth Calculator Plugin you can keep track of your finances online.
Why Calculate Your Net Worth?
Letting your finances go unchecked means that you may unwittingly fall further into debt. If you calculate what you’re worth every month it’s a way of staying on the straight and narrow – for the majority of people; ironically, those who could do with calculating their net worth rarely do. Of course, even if you’re not laden with debt checking your net worth regularly is a good financial habit to have, and gives you the chance to congratulate yourself every now and again on your excellent budgeting skills.
Net Worth Calculator Plugin Guide
So, without further ado, let us introduce our Net Worth Calculator Plugin. This plugin for WordPress allows you to publish your net worth and financial information online. It may not be for everyone – after all, some people like to keep these things private – but many people have already found it very useful. The calculator is perfect for doing monthly blog posts regarding your net worth as monthly snapshots of your assets and liabilities can be easily uploaded and displayed in graph or table form directly to your website.
You can choose to install the plugin automatically through your WordPress admin dashboard. Just search for and add the calculator via the “Add New Plugin” feature. Or, install the plugin manually by downloading it from here and activating it through the WordPress dashboard.
It’s important you take some time to read the FAQs thoroughly as they offer some valuable pointers on how to install the plugin correctly. Once you have the plugin successfully installed, and you can view it via the dashboard, you can get started on figuring out your net worth.

On the right-hand side of the screen you should see two boxes, one for assets and one for liabilities. Enter what you own – everything – and then in the liabilities box, enter all your debts, including the ones you’d prefer to forget about! When listing your assets, start with the largest first – usually your home – then include any savings, pensions, life assurance, collectables, art works and jewellery. Don’t forget to include student loans, car loans and credit card debts in the liabilities section. And if you’d prefer the information was kept private, just tick the box for the specific asset. The table on the bottom left offers graphical representation of your net worth over the months.

Underneath the graph is a clickable link that will generate a specific code, allowing you to embed and display the net worth graph on your website. Keeping a record of your finances this way can be encouraging as you watch that line climb, and may work as a deterrent from getting into too much debt.

To insert the assets and liabilities tables, click on the link to generate the code for both tables. When you start to take note of all debts via the calculator, working out what you can afford to pay off is easier. Or you may realise over a period of months that you never seem to get rid of any credit card debt, which urges you to do something about it. If you have a number of assets, look how you can use them in your favour to decrease your liabilities, thus increasing your net worth.

The plugin also allows users to change the appearance of their personal calculator, making it customizable to suit your site. There are seven different fonts available, and the size can be changed, too. The graph’s vertical and horizontal labels can be altered, as can the order of both the asset and liabilities boxes.
All you have to do now is log on and plug in.
