ANZ Opens New Global Headquarters In Melbourne’s Docklands
ANZ has announced their brand new Melbourne Docklands ANZ Centre as their new global headquarters today.
Officially opened by the Premier of Victoria, John Brumby, the building’s opening ceremony saw some heavy caliber guests attend the event.
A 6-star rated energy efficient business centre:
The ANZ Centre is situated on the Yarra River, on Collins Street. The building won a 6-star rating approval by the Green Building Council of Australia. This means it has been efficiently built to be run with the environment in mind keeping the 6,500 ANZ staff within happy no doubt.
ANZ Centre is said to produce 70 per cent less greenhouse gas emissions. It is also sufficiently built enough to generate most of tis elecricity on-site with its own gas-fired tri-generation plant, solar cells and wind turbines. The centre also uses about 50 per cent less potable water than a standard Australian commercial building.
Is ANZ Australia’s first true green bank?
If future banking gets as good as the ANZ Centre then we can look forward to positive building practices that will keep the environment and staff happy thanks to some inventive design. No doubt the centre is filled with light and plenty of pot plants to make it look more appealing to those who spend their days counting money.
Other green features also include black water recycling, rainwater harvesting, and an underfloor air-conditioning system that uses cool water from the Yarra to reduce demand
ANZ Centre features:
Some more stats:
- The new office space will accommodate 6,500 ANZ employees consolidating 13 offices down to eight.
- ANZ’s new brand logo can be seen on top of the ANZ Centre so there is no mistaken identity. The brand will be gradually rolled out across ANZ’s buildings and branches over the coming months.
- Some $35 million were invested by the bank to lift ANZ Centre’s environmental credentials. The building has achieved a 6 Star Green Star rating from the Green Building Council of Australia for ‘˜Office Design’ and is registered for two additional Green Star categories – ‘˜Office Interiors’ and ‘˜Office as Built’.
Environmental features of ANZ Centre include:
- River cooling: an air conditioning system that uses cool water from the Yarra River to reduce demand on the cooling towers.
- Green roof: The lower roof of the building on the Yarra River side will be planted with low-growing, drought tolerant plants.
- Tri-generation: Electricity will be generated on-site using natural gas instead of brown coal. The heat from the process will feed the air conditioning absorption chillers in the summer and the boilers in the winter.
- Solar power: 1000 square metres of solar cells will supply renewable energy.
- Wind turbines: Roof mounted wind turbines will supplement electricity generated on-site.
- Underfloor air-conditioning: The building’s energy efficient air-conditioning system maximises the use of fresh air.
- Black water recycling: All waste water will be recycled for uses such as flushing toilets. The building will use about 50 per cent less water than the average Australian office building.
- Storm water re-use: Rainwater harvested from the building’s upper roof area will be collected and used to irrigate the green roof, internal plants, terraced gardening and other landscaped areas.
- ANZ Centre has fixed and wireless connectivity throughout the building, VOIP telephony systems, Cisco TelePresence suites, and staff are using smart card, photographic ID security access cards that include Visa payWave technology.
- ANZ Centre also represents an investment in the infrastructure at Victoria Harbour – including Collins Landing and the extension of Collins Street, along with the altered Route 48 Tram. There will also be 11 retail outlets within the building, as well as an ANZ branch. People living or working in the Docklands area will have access to the retail facilities at ANZ Centre.
- ANZ Centre is located in Victoria Harbour, a 30-hectare precinct being developed by Lend Lease Development. The precinct has 2.5 kilometres of water frontage and a vibrant mix of retail, residential, office and community development
