NetBank Internet Banking Facts From NetBank Pulse

Posted November 14th, 2009 and last modified May 5th, 2011

Commonwealth Bank’s NetBank Pulse has been carrying out a little research and has come up with a list of demographics and figures about how many people access NetBank on Australia on a daily basis, their ages, where they access from, and how they access.

NetBank is Commonwealth Bank’s online banking facility, and is available 24/7 to their customers for a whole host of transactions and services.

Here are the figures they have gathered:

NetBank Pulse findings:

In the whole of Australia …

  • 1,267,162 people of all ages access NetBank each day
  • 632, 341 of them are men
  • 607,544 of them are women
  • 1,239,885 gain access via a computer
  • 27,276 gain access via a mobile device
  • 157,217 males under 25 years of age use NetBank every day
  • 150,242 females under 25 years of age use NetBank every day
  • 162,512 males 20 to 35 years of age use NetBank every day
  • 156,139 females 20 to 35 years of age use NetBank every day
  • 218,790 males 30 to 50 years of age use NetBank every day
  • 210,210 females 30 to 50 years of age use NetBank every day
  • 202,982 males 50 to 70 years of age use NetBank every day
  • 195,022 females 50 to 70 years of age use NetBank every day

Broken down by territory …

  • 20,746 people in ACT use NetBank every day
  • 463,781 people in NSW use NetBank every day
  • 10,752 people in NT use NetBank every day
  • 211,098 people in QLD use NetBank every day
  • 74,191 people in SA use NetBank every day
  • 29,848 people in TAS use NetBank every day
  • 102,913 people in WA use NetBank every day
  • 341,612 people in VIC use NetBank every day

Of these figures, it is interesting to note that the 50 to 70 years-olds are making a good show of their internet skills these days, giving the lie to the suggestion that the internet is a younger person’s phenomenon. And 1.3 million people is a lot of people each day, considering this figure only accounts for one of Australia’s big banks.
