Pay to Pee – Ryanair To Install Credit Card Readers On Their Toilets
Fancy having to pay for going for a pee while in mid-flight somewhere in Europe. Well, this is exactly what European based air carrier Ryanair is going to make their passengers do when they install credit card readers within two years.
How would you feel if you had to swipe your card through a credit card reader before being allowed to pee on a flight?
A survey hosted by totaltravel.com found that out of 1340 people nine out of 10 respondents thought it ridiculous to paying for a human function while flying above the skies. Aussies have not taken kindly to the announcement. We believe strongly in our right to pee for free wherever we are when nature calls.
One surveyed Aussies said: “Going to the bathroom is a basic human function and should not be paid for under any circumstances.” Another angry participant stated: “Young children, mature-aged and disabled individuals particularly stand to suffer the most from such an idiotic, money-grabbing proposal.”
Out of the people surveyed only 4.5 per cent believed the idea to be great as it would keep bathrooms while the same amount of people claimed they didn’t care at all.
Paul Fisher, marketing manager of Totaltravel.com said the survey had hit a nerve with voters, with 1000 votes received in just 24 hours. He said: “There’s no debate here – Australians detest the idea of paying to pee and I would advise all low-cost airlines to pay close attention.”
“Travellers want value for money but they do not want to be taken advantage of. I think it’s fair to say that charging customers for using the toilets will not win any fans.”
While the news of Ryanair’s credit card readers in planes is angering Australian readers, paying for a pee and other personal bodily functions is quite normal in many European countries. Big city train stations in Switzerland have long charged their customers for doing exactly that and the last time I checked the cost was well above $2 for a simple pee.
