The Amex Platinum card lets you take advantage of earning a range of bonus Qantas Points to really get your points balance started on the right foot.

As this is a premium card, you also receive a range of bonus insurance policies at no additional cost. These are ideally suited to anyone who travels frequently, as they’re predominantly travel-related policies. Of course, there are purchase protection related policies attached to the account as well.

Features and benefits

This card may be suitable to any customer who uses a credit card frequently to pay for everyday items along with larger purchases, such as paying for regular flights and travel related expenses.

The ability to earn plenty of Qantas points every time you use your card to pay for eligible purchases means you can grow your points balance quickly. You’re also able to maximise your points earnings by shopping with the multiple Qantas bonus partners.

Earning Points

Whenever you use your card to pay for valid purchases, you’ll earn 1.00 points for each dollar you spend. You can increase the rate at which you’re earning those points if you choose to supply a supplementary card for a spouse or family member as well.

If you’re using your card to pay for Qantas products and services you’ll receive an additional point for every dollar you spend.

Your points don’t have an expiry date on them, so you’re able to accumulate them over time to pay for a larger item you want to redeem them for if you want. There are plenty of great travel-related items you can redeem points for, along with lots of merchandise and even shopping vouchers if this is your preference.

Bonus Qantas Points

Once you’ve made your first purchase using your Amex Platinum card, you’ll receive 5,000 bonus points into your Frequent Flyer account as a reward. If you use your card to pay for eligible Qantas products and services, you’ll also earn an additional 2,500 bonus points as well.

This could allow you to boost the points you have overall, especially if you use your Amex Platinum card to pay for Qantas flights. You’ll be gaining those bonus points and still earning the regular amount of points for each dollar you spent anyway.

Additional Perks of Owning an Amex Qantas Platinum Credit Card

Just for owning this prestige card, you’ll receive two invitations each year into Qantas Club lounges. This is an excellent way to take advantage of lounge facilities in airports without having to upgrade your existing Frequent Flyer membership just to get in the door.

Your account also comes with a range of travel-related insurance policies attached to it at no additional cost to you. These include:

    • International & Domestic Travel Coverage: your account includes a policy to cover you for international and domestic travel.
    • Transport Accident Insurance: if you’re involved in an accident while in transit on a bus, train, tram, ferry or plane, you could be covered for up to $200,000.
    • Travel Inconvenience Insurance: if your flight is delayed due to unforeseen

circumstances, you could be reimbursed an amount of up to $200 to make up for the inconvenience.

  • Luggage, Cash & Documents Coverage: if you incur any loss or damage to your personal baggage, your money or any documents you’re carrying during your trip, you could be covered for amounts up to $5,000.
  • Medical Emergency Expenses Policy: if you’re injured or fall ill while you’re travelling overseas, you could be covered for as much as $2,500,000 to go towards paying for any medical emergency expenses.
  • Travel Cancellation Policy: if your travel arrangements are cancelled on short notice, you could be covered for as much as $7,500 to make up for any costs and inconvenience you incurred.
  • Purchase Protection Policy: any eligible items you purchase using your card are covered for up to 90 days after the purchase date against accidental damage or theft.
  • Refund Protection Insurance: in the event that a merchant refuses to refund an amount of money you paid on an unused item, you could be credited with that amount for up to 90 days from the purchase date.

I am a retiree. I own my home which is valued more than a million dollars. I have more than $200,000 in the bank. I have lots of shares and I do not owe anybody any money. My credit is excellent. Are you trying to tell me I can’t apply for a Qantas/Amex FF card?

      Hi,

Thanks for the question. There is a minimum income requirement of $40,000 p.a.; however that is not the only consideration. The banks will take in a wider view of your financial situation before accepting or rejecting your application. Please contact your lender to discuss this issue further.

      Cheers,
      Jeremy
