The David Jones Credit Program
David Jones, as most Australians know, is one of the premier retailers in the country. The company recently re-released its American Express credit card program. This is one of the valuable credit card programs Australia has ever seen. The purpose of the re-launch was to try and boost its income from its financial services department which has declined in the last few years.
David Jones not only increased balances but also receivables. The partnership with American Express is expected to last at least another two years with the program expiring in 2013.
Each time David Jones customers use their credit card at a store or gas station, they will earn 3.00 points for each dollar they spend. They will also earn two points for each dollar spent at David Jones stores, as well as 1.00 point for every dollar spent anywhere else.
When customers earn points, they can spend those points on travel expenses, they can purchase gift cards, they can use them for entertainment purposes, certain types of merchandise, and they can even add a credit to their credit card account. David Jones wanted to make sure its customers always had plenty of choices for the points they earned, no matter where they used the card.
With the card able to be used at all retailers, David Jones hopes to grow its card holding base and in turn increase the revenue in its financial services department at the same time.

The Australian Financial Review board states that credit card revenue has decreased at David Jones stores in the last few years. In 2004 and in 2005, credit card purchases made up 30% of the store’s revenue, but that percentage diminished by 2009 standing at only 18%. But the company has done what it can to boost business and it expects that its revenue will jump to anywhere between 5% to 10% for the fiscal year of 2010.
David Jones originally partnered with American Express in order to create the store’s own charge card in 2008. The partnership was supposed to go to Citigroup but American Express beat them out.
Users of the re-launched credit card can also earn over 30,000 bonus points when they spend 3 times outside David Jones within 1 month of receiving your card.
With all the flexibility the David Jones card gives customers, thanks to American Express, they can now use the card wherever they wish. They will earn points that can go to exciting rewards and much more. This is definitely one of those credit card programs you won’t want to pass up even if you don’t regularly shop at David Jones. It seems that the company is well on its way to increasing its customer base with this exciting new credit card partnership.
