If you are a businessman or woman, then the BusinessVantage credit card offers competitive rates and fees along with special accounting features for small businesses.

St.George Credit Cards

St.George also offers a wide selection of credit cards to fit all the various needs of its customers. These include:

The St.George Vertigo MasterCard

  • Standard variable rate-
    13.24%
  • Cash transaction rate-
    21.49% p.a.
  • Annual fee-
$0 p.a. annual fee for the first year ($55 p.a. thereafter)
  • Interest free days- Up to 55
  • Minimum earning requirement-

This credit card is ideal for those with existing credit card debt. New customers switching an outstanding balance from another card will benefit from a 2.99% p.a. for 6 months balance transfer rate.

Your debt can now be paid at your leisure without additional interest increasing your balance. If you do use your Vertigo card to make purchases the low ongoing rate of 13.24% makes this card one of the most affordable in terms of interest.

Cash transactions are very expensive at and should be avoided wherever possible. You do have up to 55 days interest free if you do use your card to shop or withdraw cash, and as long as any balance is repaid within that time you won’t accrue any interest.

Because the minimum earning criteria is the potential credit limit is very modest, however this does make the card potentially suitable for lower earners.

The St.George Amplify Card

  • Balance transfer rate-
    0.99% p.a. for 6 months
  • Standard variable rate-
    18.74%
  • Cash transaction rate-
    20.74% p.a.
  • Annual fee-
$0 p.a. annual fee for the first year ($79 p.a. thereafter)
  • Interest free days- Up to 55
  • Reward program- Yes

With a low balance transfer rate of
0.99% p.a. for 6 months this card could be useful for anyone wanting to consolidate their credit card debts. With up to 55 days interest free you can treat yourself in the knowledge you have a full month to repay the debt without any interest being charged.

The biggest attraction of this product is it’s reward program which gives users the choice between two exciting reward schemes. Customers can choose between Amplify rewards or Qantas Frequent Flyer incentives.

Those who decide to go down the Qantas route will save $82.50 in membership fees, as the scheme is free to all Amplify card customers.

Whilst the points to dollar ratio isn’t the best of the reward programs, those who use their cards regularly will still be able to accumulate an impressive points tally making this card worth a serious look if your interested in an incentive based card.

The St.George Platinum Card

  • Balance transfer rate-
    3.99% p.a. for 6 months
  • Standard variable rate-
    15.99%
  • Cash transaction rate-
    21.49% p.a.
  • Annual fee-
$0 p.a. annual fee for the first year ($89 p.a. thereafter)
  • Interest free days- Up to 55
  • Reward program- No

This card does offer you the chance to save some money on outstanding credit card balances with a rate of 3.99%. Still very cheap when compared to most standard rates, even though not quite as low as the 0.99% available on other cards in the St.George range.

There is no reward program offered, but there are a wide range of bonuses. Here is a breakdown of the insurance you receive as a cardholder:

  • Extended Warranty
  • World Travel Insurance
  • Flight Inconvenience Insurance
  • Personal Item Theft Cover
  • Price Protection Insurance
  • Purchase Protection Insurance
  • Transport Accident Insurance

The $0 p.a. annual fee for the first year ($89 p.a. thereafter) is much less than you’d pay if you brought all these insurances separately.

The St.George Visa Debit Card

If you’re looking for a debit card to work in partnership with your chosen credit card then the St.George Visa debit card is the perfect solution.

With no annual or account management fees, this debit card allows you to shop safely wherever Visa is accepted. That includes unlimited online transactions.

As a card holder you’ll have access to at least 2700 ATM’s meaning you can grab money when you need it from almost anywhere in the country.

One feature of this product is the 10 free sms and email alerts you receive each month. Now it will be even easier to stay organised, and mistakenly going overdrawn should be a thing of the past.

You have full branch access, and can also access your accounts at anytime by either telephone or Internet. Application for the St.George credit and debit card range is very quick and simple. You can apply via the phone or the Internet, and if making an online application you could receive an answer in under a minute.

In Conclusion

St.George is not only a well respected banking giant, but it also offers a wide range of products aimed to catch a large cross section of consumers. Take the time to work out your budget, and decide how you want to use your credit card.

Someone who wants to consolidate outstanding credit card debts is likely to be much better suited to the Vertigo MasterCard for example than someone looking for a card with a reward scheme with a higher credit limit.

Be sure to check out the St.George website regularly as new deals hit the market all the time.

The balance transfer process:

If you are applying for a St.George credit card, then you can ask to have a balance transfer made at the same time, and the balance transfer will begin when the account becomes active. Once the introductory low rate period expires, any of the transferred balance remaining will revert to the normal purchase interest rate.

Balance Transfer Process
Learn more about the balance transfer process

It normally takes around two weeks for the process to complete, and new customers with St.George must have their identity verified before their card can be activated and the balance transfer process can begin. Until that time, the debt will remain with the old card provider and you must still pay them.

Important points when considering a balance transfer to a St.George credit card:

Which types of credit cards can you transfer your balance from?

You can make a balance transfer from a credit card issued by a different provider or from a store card (E.g. Woolworths, David Jones or BP). However, you cannot make a balance transfer from one St.George credit card to another credit card by St.George Bank.

You cannot transfer:

  • From another St.George credit card.
  • From a foreign credit card.
  • Less than $200.
  • More than 95% of your available credit limit.
  • If you are in default on the account.

Find out how easy it is to make a St.George credit card application online. Know which documents and what information you need to make the process flow smoothly.

Applying for a St.George Vertigo MasterCard can be done online, and this is a perfectly safe and secure process. You just need to have certain information to hand and you obviously must make sure that you fulfill the eligibility requirements. Applicants for a St.George Vertigo must be at least 18 years old, be a permanent resident of Australia, and have a good credit rating.

  • Your driver’s licence number, if you have one
  • Your net (after-tax) weekly income
  • Details of your income, assets, savings and investments
  • Any repayment liabilities you have, such as credit card and store card debts, or personal loans
  • Your most recent tax details if you are self-employed

The St.George Credit Card application process:

Keeping track of your St.George application is a simple matter of logging on to St.George Internet banking, or you can request that St.George keeps you updated by email or SMS when each stage of the process is completed.

If you are a new customer with St.George, your identity will need to be checked and confirmed, which is the law. You could also be asked to provide other documents, or to prove some of the information you have already provided. You will also be subject to a credit rating check so that St.George can assess you as a lending risk. Normally, successful applicants can expect to have their card within five to ten working days.
