Since this credit card is a No Annual Fee card, the annual fee is $0 p.a.. This is a great deal of savings for you, as some annual fees on credit cards can be rather high.

  • For both purchases and for cash advances the interest rate is 20.49% p.a.
  • If you choose to use your card while you are travelling overseas, a rate of 3% will apply for foreign currency transactions. This is applicable for both purchases and for ATM transactions.
  • In the event that your credit card balance is paid late or is missed entirely, you will have to pay a late payment fee of $9. In addition to this, if you choose to pay your balance via automatic payment and the payment is dishonoured, you will be charged $9 per dishonoured payment.
  • If a transaction is processed for an amount that exceeds your available credit, you will be charged an over limit fee of
    $9.

In addition to this, if you lose your credit card, you will be able to receive a replacement. But depending on the circumstances, the fee for this will vary. If you are within Australia and require a card, the fee is $15 per card. If you are outside Australia and require a card, the fee is $52.5 per card. If you require a card for emergency use or need an urgent replacement, the fee is $45.

If you need to have access to an additional copy of your statement and request a copy by telephone banking or with the online banking service, there will be a fee of $7.5.

If you would like to add more card users to your account, you can do so for no extra charge. Under this credit card account, you can add up to 3 extra card holders for free. This is very useful in the event that you want your spouse or child to have a credit card for emergency use. They will have access to the low fees and security that you enjoy.

Card Benefits

This card does not have any reward programs or benefits, but that does not mean that it cannot benefit you in any way. Because the credit card does not carry an annual fee, if you are able to pay your balance off in full and on time, you will essentially have access to a completely credit card with no fees. This is because you will not be incurring any late fees or interest charges.

This card could be perfect for customers who want to have access to a credit card but maybe will not use it very frequently. It is also an option for customers who are certain that they will pay their balance on time and in full every month.

For users who want access to a credit card for emergency purposes, this credit card gives you the option of choosing a very low credit limit. The limit for this card can be as low as $500 – which could be perfect for the infrequent card user.

A lower credit limit can have a lot of benefits. Primarily, since you have less money at your disposal, you will be less tempted to go out and spend large sums of money using your credit card. Also, in the event that your credit card becomes compromised and you are the victim of credit card fraud, there will be less money for the criminals to have access to.

Because this credit card is operated by either Visa or MasterCard, you will be able to make purchases online in a safe and secure way. Visa offer their customers the Verified by Visa program and MasterCard offer their customers the SecureCode program. Websites that have these programs are more secure than sites that do not. Even though these measures are in place, it is important that you are careful when you make purchases online.

To protect you against fraud, this credit card protects customers with the 24 hour Falcon monitoring service. This service monitors all of the transactions that you make with your credit card. In the event of a suspicious or fraudulent transaction, you will be contacted and measures will be taken to ensure that any criminal behaviour cannot continue with your card. This service offers you peace of mind, as it ensures that the transactions that occur on your account are legitimate.

Why Choose the Card?

There are a few reasons why this card could be beneficial for you. If you are a person who wants a credit card for emergency use and does not intend to use the card frequently, then this card is a great fit. This is because there is no annual fee, so you will not have to pay anything to have the card. In the event that you need to use it to pay for any unexpected bills, then the card will be there for you to use.

If you are a person that pays their credit card balance on time and in full, then this card could fit your needs too. There is no annual fee and because you will not incur any interest from late fees.

The low fees for this card make it suitable for infrequent credit card users and for financially responsible individuals. The amount of money you will be able to save from not having an annual fee or any interest will be substantial.

Hi I got bad credit history so would that stop me from getting this credit card. I just need a chance to prove I can do right by people. I would put my payments onto the card so there will always me fortnightly payments and all I can ask is for a chance. I am with Bank SA for my normal banking so all I can ask for is a chance to prove myself. Thank you and look forward in hearing back from you. Kayla x

Hello, can my wife and I have a joint credit card, i.e a card each on the one account?

    • Staff
      Marc | January 3, 2013

      Hi John

Happy New Year! Thank you for your question.

Yes, it is possible to have a joint credit card on one account with St.George. Up to three additional cardholders can be added to one account at no additional cost.

The online application form will present two options:

      1) Joint application. This will take into account the combined incomes and credit worthiness of both applicants when applying. If approved two credit cards will be received for the one account.

      2) Single Application. This will take into account only one person’s income and credit worthiness when applying. In order to have two credit cards on one account, an additional cardholder can be added at no additional cost.

Please let us know if you have any further questions

      Thank you again,

      Marc

If I apply for a card and request a balance transfer, will that also effect a closure of the account from which the balance transfer occurs? That is what I would want to happen.

      Hi Steve,

      Thanks for your question.

A balance transfer will not automatically close the account from where the balance is transferred from. If this is required, cardholders must be request their existing card account be closed, and it’s also their responsibility to transfer or redeem any rewards points from these accounts, as these can be lost when closing a credit card account off.

I hope this answers your question.
      Marc.

I am an American that is a Permanent Resident of Australia. I am Married to an Australian. I get 1,437 Dollars U.S.A. from my Retirement. My wife makes 42.000 AUD and I plan to work part time. I just want a credit card for emergencies and small stuff. Between 500 AUD and 100 AUD would do. Is it possible with this bank and I picked this bank for a special reason.

Hi Samuel. Thanks for your question. So, you will need to have money coming into an Australian bank account so the bank can verify that you’re earning an income. St.George bank do allow joint primary cardholder credit cards, so you may be able to apply jointly with your wife if your income is going to be an issue. Perhaps once you’re working part time, you may be eligible for this card. Please see the table at the bottom of the review and application page for the minimum credit limit for this card. Jacob.

    - will the second card for my spouse have the same credit number, or different?

    - is online checking of balances/statements available?

    - is a security token used?

    - we currently have Citibank cards with a $7000 max, can this be brought over? (The cards are paid off in full each month & we have had them for 15 years.)

    thank you

Hi Bill. Thanks for your question.
      1) additional cards have their own number and the person’s name printed on the front.
      2) you can manage your account online – St.George also have APPS for tablets and mobile devices. It’s easy to make payments and check your transactions this way.
      3) St.George use an additional layer of security provided by MasterCard and Visa when making purchases online.
      4) This card does not currently offer a balance transfer promotion – please compare balance transfer credit cards here. If your existing cards have been paid off in full, there’s no need to transfer a balance – for more information about balance transfers, please watch this video.
Let me know if there’s anything else you need.
      Jacob.
