Supermarket credit cards have become hot items these days. Retailers are trying to find new ways to promote customer loyalty and increase sales. No longer using only their store cards, supermarkets are partnering with banks to provide convenience as well as brand recognition to customers. And, when combined with a major credit card, supermarket credit cards can be used all over the world and can be used to purchase in millions of locations.

Card Features for the Major Retailers
Two of Australia's major supermarket retailers, Woolworths and Coles Group, have teamed up with banks to make the Woolworths credit card and the Coles Group Source card. The Woolworths Everyday Money; credit card is currently offering 19.84% p.a. on purchases and 21.34% p.a. on cash advances while the Coles Group Source MasterCard offers 20.49% p.a. on purchases and 21.99% p.a. on cash advances.
The Coles Group Source cards offers a 62 interest free grace period for those who wish to pay off the balance before accruing interest. Alternatively, Woolworths offers 55 days without interest. If you transfer a balance over the Woolworths' card, expect a 5.99% p.a. for 6 months
on balance transfers. And, Coles Group Source imposes an interest rate of 0% p.a. for 6 months on balance transfers. For annual fees, you will find that Woolworths' charges $49 and Coles Group Source charges an annual fee of $0.
How to Earn Rewards Points
If you have a Woolworths credit card, you can begin to rack up points fairly easily. With the Woolworths card, you receive a rewards point each time you use the card regardless of where you chose to make the purchase. However, if you make a purchase within the group of partner retailers, you receive additional points. With the Coles Group Source card, you will need to enroll in the FlyBuys program to earn points. In the program, you earn 4 points for every $5 that you spend. There is a cap of a maximum of 80,000 points per year.
How to Redeem Points
With the Woolworths credit card, you are given a shopping card every four months that you can use at any Woolworths store or petrol station. In order to get the card, you will need to have earned at least 3,450 points to receive a $20 value shopping card. With the Coles Source card, your points are transferred every three months. With every 2,500 points earned, you receive a $20 card. The points can be exchanged for flights, vouchers, small appliances, and other traditional rewards items.
