You might think it is a difficult process to switch accounts to St. George, but it is actually quite simple. All you have to do is follow a few steps and you too can enjoy the excellent customer service that other St. George customers have come to expect.

Steps to switch accounts to St. George:

  1. The first step in the switching process is to open an account with St. George. You can research the St. George website to learn all about the different types of accounts offered. Once you have chosen the one that best fits your banking needs to you can go to your local branch to open an account or do so online or by phone.
  2. Next you should stop using your previous cheque account. It is important that you leave enough money in the account to cover any outstanding debts like cheques or automatic payments.
  3. Your old bank should be able to give you a list of your regular and periodic payments. If not, you can use the St. George activity summary to make a list of organisations you will need to notify about your new account.
  4. You should also notify your employer that you have a new account in which to deposit your salary. They will need your new account and BSB number. When you switch accounts to St. George you can use their downloadable salary transfer request form or their Online Easy Switch Service.
  5. The direct credits and debits that come out of your account regularly, like the telephone bill, electricity bill, or insurance premiums will also need to be switched to your new account. You can do this by contacting your service provider and informing them of the account change. Other ways of notifying them are by using the Online Easy Switch Service to print out form letters that can be mailed or faxed or you can use the Switching Financial Institutions Form. If you need help with the process there are guides posted online or you can go to your local branch for personalised assistance.
  6. Any other payments you have set up to come out of your account, like credit card bills, rent, or loan payments should be switched. You will need to provide a BSB number, Account Number, and for those accounts outside of Australia an Account Name. Here in Australia we only use the account number and BSB number, not the account name so it is important that you double check both of these numbers.
  7. Once you have completed all of these steps and you are certain that there are no outstanding credits or debits to your old account you can close it. You should be able to do this with a quick trip to the local branch, online, or by telephone.

When you switch accounts to St. George you are gaining quality in customer service. You will be happy to know that in addition to the best customer service you also get great banking products and rates.
