The NEW Aussie MasterCard

Posted January 14th, 2009 and last modified December 18th, 2009

Aussie John's new credit card

The Aussie MasterCard has been around for a while, constantly on the leaderboards for Australia’s favourite and best credit cards. Not a card to stay stale, Aussie have reinvented themselves again and now offer an incredible new feature on their flagship credit card.

2.99% on Balance Transfers and purchases for 6 Months

Aussie are now offering 2.99% for 6 months on balance transfers and 2.99% on purchases for 6 months (the only of it’s kind).

A Review on the New Features

The new Aussie MasterCard can truly either be a godsend, or a nightmare. It all depends on how you use it.

  • The introductory purchase rate: After enjoying your 2.99% interest for 6 months, it will revert back to 12.29%. There isn’t really a catch here, even after the 12 month promotion is over, you’re back to an already low standard rate.
  • The balance transfer rate: Coupled with the low purchase rate, this can get messy. If you transfer a balance over to your Aussie MasterCard and then make a purchase on it, you won’t be able to pay that purchase off until you’ve paid off all your transferred debt. This is where credit card providers cash-in, when the inexperienced make simple mistakes like these.
  • There is a simple rule to follow: If you are going to use this credit card for a balance transfer, use a different credit card for purchases.

The Aussie MasterCard has updated to remain one of the most competitive offers in the Australian credit card market.
