Things You Should Look for with your bank’s Customer Support

One of the most important yet often overlooked aspects of a good credit card is the level of customer services, and customer support that they offer. Although there are some institutions that pride themselves, and excel in the area of customer support and relations, there are others that have clearly missed the point.
Customer Retention
Whilst it is usually a promotional rate of interest or other type of special deal that attracts new customers, it is quite often the staff and support offered by the lender that will retain customers.
I have heard many stories of people who have changed credit card providers simply because of a bad customer service experience. Considering the amount of money that consumers spend with these companies, a good level of customer support is a must.
Why Is Customer Service So Important?
Although much debt is self generated, being a position where you are unable to meet your monthly payments, or in a position where you find an interest rate rise means you cannot afford to pay your balance, is very stressful.
It is vital that there is a good customer support network set up to help customers who have hit hard times. Although it is not down to the lender to get us out of debt, a lender who is a little flexible with things like payment dates, and interest rates will always do well in terms of customer loyalty.
A customer who has lost their credit card, or thinks it may have been used fraudulently will often be in a state of panic, and needs to know there is a friendly helpful person at the end of the line who will help them sort things out.
Branch Trading Hours & Call Centre Trading Hours
One of the things that customers always seem to complain about in customer service surveys is that they can never get hold of their customer support team. It is very important for customers to be able to get hold of someone at their credit card company during a wide range of hours. It is always an added benefit to have after-hours access with late trading, or branch access on weekends.
A team that is only available 9-5 during the week is not going to be much help to those who work full time. It is vital that lenders provide a good solid support service from the morning into the evening and this is something worth enquiring about when you join a lender.
Last but by no means least your customer service team must have a good attitude. Being spoken to like a child, or in a rude manner is utterly unacceptable. A good customer support will be amiable, friendly, and patient.
Anything less will adversely affect the long term success of a business. If you feel you have been treated in an unacceptable manner then do not be afraid to ask to speak to somebody more senior to air your views.
You are a paying customer, and should get the level of service you are entitled to.
