The Top Five credit card providers dominate the Australian credit card market, but their credit card offerings aren’t always the same. With cards offering low rates, low fees, balance transfers and rewards schemes, it’s becoming more difficult for customers to find the right one to suit them.

ANZ Frequent Flyer Credit Card

Top Five Credit Card Providers Rewards Schemes
Below is a quick guide to most common credit card providers:
Commonwealth Bank
The Commonwealth Bank offers account holders two credit cards linked to the same account. You’ll receive a MasterCard and an American Express card, both linked to the same credit limit and shown on the same statement each month.
The benefit to customers is that they can earn 1.5 Awards points for every $1 they spend using the American Express card. Gold card holders will earn 2 points per $1 spent and Platinum card holders can earn 3 points per $1 spent on the American Express. However all MasterCard purchases are rewarded with 1 point per $1 spent.
Points can be redeemed for rewards that include flights, shopping and entertainment.
ANZ
ANZ is one of the top five credit card providers offering rewards schemes because of their ANZ Rewards scheme. Standard and Gold Visa card holders can earn 1 point for every $1 spent using their credit card.
Points are redeemable for a great range of Frequent Flyer miles that include Virgin Australia Velocity Points, Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars, Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles and Cathay Pacific Miles. Customers also have the option to redeem points for homewares, electrical goods and gift cards, if they prefer.
Westpac
The Westpac Altitude cards are given a choice of either a Visa or MasterCard, but they’re also given an American Express card as part of the same credit limit. Customers will earn 2 Altitude points per $1 spent using the AMEX and 1 point per $1 spend on the Visa or MasterCard. Altitude points can be redeemed for an extensive range of items, including flights, gift cards, homewares, electrical goods, entertainment and even cash back.
NAB
The NAB makes the top five credit card providers with their range of credit cards offering rewards schemes. Most of their rewards programs are links to Qantas Frequent Flyer miles, Velocity Points or FlyBuys schemes to give customers plenty of choice for redeeming rewards.
Citibank
Citibank has been working diligently to try and end the dominance of Australia’s ‘Big Four’ banks, offering great rewards scheme credit cards. Customers will earn 1 point for every $1 they spend using their credit card and points can be redeemed for a great range of rewards, including travel, gifts and experiences.
