Ways to use credit card rewards points
1. Gift cards
Everyone loves gift cards and you can use credit card rewards points to get them. Instead of choosing a catalog item you can usually exchange your points for a shopping voucher or a gift card. Many schemes offer these gift cards which are redeemable at retailers such as Woolworths, David Jones, Harvey Norman, Myer and Dymocks. They make perfect Christmas and birthday presents and you can stock up on them as your points accumulate so that you are always ready for the next occasion.
2. Donations to charities
Many rewards schemes allow you to make a donation to selected charities using your reward points. Some of these charities include Save the Children, the Starlight Children’s Foundation, Oxfam and the RSPCA. Why not use your points to better the world and feel great about it?
3. Electronics
You can use credit card rewards points to get state-of-the-art electronic equipment for your home. Maybe you need a new digital camera or a sound system. If you don’t have enough points to buy yourself such a luxury many of these programs give you the option of using your points as a partial payment and paying the rest in cash.
4. Fun and entertainment
You can choose to use your rewards points for an experience instead of merchandise. You can get theme park admission tickets and passes for free cinema shows, or you can choose something more exciting such as sky diving, a hot air balloon trip or a drive in a rally car.
5. Cashback
Sometimes nothing can replace good old cash, and if that is what you want then there are rewards programs that will give you money for purchasing items you need to purchase anyway. Usually points are exchanged as a credit to the balance on your credit card and this can be anywhere from $20-$100. With some cards, you can even use your points to pay for the annual card fee.
6. Flights and holidays
Some reward schemes concentrate on collecting flight rewards. Some cards allow you to book a flight through their travel service while others link you up to a Frequent Flyer program with a specified airline. Some cards also allow you to use your points for discounted travel.
These are some fun and exciting ways you can use credit card rewards points. There are plenty of rewards programs available, now all you need to do is find the best one for you.
