An overseas credit card can be used as a replacement for travelers checks or cash. It is a more secure way to travel and you will rest easier knowing that more than 30 million outlets across the world accept MasterCard and Visa as a payment. Take a look at this article to find out how to manage a credit card that you plan on taking overseas.

Your travelling will be complete as long as you take along an overseas credit card that can be used anywhere that MasterCard or Visa are accepted. Here are some tips that will help you manage your credit card once you are overseas.

Using an overseas credit card

These are important points that you should keep in mind before heading out to travel abroad. You should always make sure that you are using an overseas credit card, and not a card that is only accepted in limited areas.

Cash limits

If you have been thinking that you would use your credit card to take out cash anytime you need it during your holiday, then you should rethink that plan. You will have the same cash limit when you are overseas as you would when you are at home. The limit on a cash withdrawal at an ATM is $2,000, and $5,000 if it is a Platinum card. You can always request a higher cash limit by visiting a St.George branch or by calling them on 13 33 30. If your MasterCard or Visa from St.George is connected to one of your transaction accounts, then you will be able to withdraw twice the limit for daily cash using your credit card.

You will be charged a fee for foreign currency conversion at the rate of 3% of the total amount of the transaction. Any standard transaction fees will also be applied to balance inquiries, purchases and withdrawals.

Many overseas establishments accept a Visa or MasterCard, and it is usually much wiser to simply pay for the purchase using your card instead of taking out a cash advance to pay for it. You will save a lot of fees and extra charges if you just make a direct purchase

Using your card

There are over 30 million outlets for MasterCard and Visa and almost a million worldwide ATMs. When you are using your overseas credit card you may not be able to have access to your transaction account even if your credit card is linked with it. If you are in need of cash you will need to use a cash advance from your credit card while you are abroad in most cases.

If you are making a purchase with your overseas credit card then just keep in mind that you will not have access to your transaction account when you are making a purchase either. If you need to get more information about accessing your savings and checking accounts while you are overseas then you can call on 13 33 30 and find out more information.

Traveling is so much easier when you take along an overseas credit card because you will not have to worry about cash loss and theft and other problems associated with carrying traveler’s checks and money. You can have a safer holiday, and enjoy it more by feeling relaxed about your finances while you are overseas.
