Benefits of the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card

When you shop using the Flyer credit card issued by Virgin Australia, you get to enjoy a number of unique benefits:

  • Purchase rate offer. Pay 0% interest on purchases for the first 12 months.
  • Balance transfer. No interest on your transferred balances for 0% p.a. for 6 months following activation of your card. After that introductory rate ends the rate reverts to a 20.99% p.a.
  • Velocity Points. You’ll earn 1 reward point per $1 on any spend with Virgin Australia, with the standard earn rate of 0.66 Velocity Points per dollar spent up to  per month and then 0.5 Velocity Points per dollar thereafter.
  • Complimentary insurance. For travelling, transit accident insurance covers you in the event of an accidental injury or death while moving from one place to the next. This is contingent on you purchasing the tickets in advance with your Flyer credit card. You are also insured for the balance of any purchase you make where you find the same item at a lower price within 60 days.
  • Interest-free days. After your 365 interest-free days expire, you can still save with up to 44 days of no interest on purchases provided that you pay your balance in full.
  • Exclusive gift voucher each year. You will be able to enjoy an exclusive $129 Virgin Australia Gift Voucher each year – that’s your annual fee covered. All you have to do is make a retail purchase with your card within two months before requesting your voucher to unlock your benefit. You can use this when booking Virgin Australia flights or selected Virgin Australia holiday packages anytime within the first 6 months from voucher issue date.

Features of the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card

The Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card provides the following features:

  • Annual fee. An annual fee of $129 will be charged, along with an annual fee of $39 for each additional card.
  • Cash advance fees. A domestic fee of $2.70 is charged for cash advances of $100 or less. Upwards of $100 a fee equal to 2.7% of the amount advanced will be applied. The international cash advance fee of $5 applies for amounts of $1000 or more withdrawn with the Velocity Flyer Credit Card.
  • Foreign exchange fee. When making purchases while travelling overseas, a fee equal to 3.3% of the transaction amount is charged. Fees charged will be reflected as a single amount on your credit card statement.
  • Overlimit fee. As long as cardholders don’t exceed their credit limits, they avoid paying this fee of $40. In certain cases, clients can request that charges taking them over the limit not be processed until a later date.
  • Over-the-counter fees. Cardholders are charged $2.70 for every transaction made over the counter at a Bank@Post office. To avoid this fee, transactions can be conducted online, by telephone or by direct debit.
  • Late payment fee. This fee is charged every seven days following a late payment. Simply ensuring that the account balance covers the minimum payment being debited will spare cardholders this fee. The late payment fee is $10 per week.
  • Card type. You get the flexibility of Visa, which is accepted around the world and online as a preferred form of payment.
  • Minimum credit limit. The credit limit for this card starts at $6,000 but can go as high as depending on your income and credit history.

      Hi Stuart,

Glad to hear from you again.

Anyway, this issue might be similar to what you’ve encountered before.
Have you tried clearing your cache yet?

I figured out that there was something wrong with my PC that’s why I was getting errors.
I always clear cookies and cache that is the first thing I do then I try different browsers.

Again I know this is an exclusive offer with card finder but is there a phone # I can contact virgin at to ask some specific questions to about this card.

Also I was told by other card companies that have applied to and was approved that a 457 visa is not considered a temporary visa. They consider temporary visas student visas, holiday visas, etc. and even a visa that is actually called a temporary visa.

I have applied to 2 card companies that plainly said on a product details page like this one that said no to temporary residents but after I called them they said I would be eligible because I have a 457 and a permanent contract for Australia. (btw I have only lived in AUS 9 months). So it was a combination of how much $ I made per year, my contract length, credit history, and 457 visa that got me approved. Just figured I put that out there.

      Hi Stuart,

      I see.
It’s good to know that you’re finally able to figure out what the problem was.
I hope it’ll allow you to go through the application forms this time.

As you’ve requested, I just emailed you a link to Virgin Money’s contact details.

      I hope this has helped.

Is there a limit to the points i can earn? I spend about $2m per year.

    • Staff
      Jacob | April 7, 2014

      Hi, Sam.

Points are uncapped. You will earn one Velocity Point for each whole Australian dollar up to $1,500 each Statement Period. After you’ve reached that limit, you will earn 0.5 Velocity Points for each whole Australian dollar spent thereafter.

      Thanks for your question.

    I am not on $35000 p.a

I am a part time university student earning around 23,000 p.a

I have an existing card with another provider with an 8,000 limit.

    i have a 100% credit history.

Will i still be considered for this card.

    • Staff
      Jacob | October 5, 2013

      Hi Ross.

Probably not. If you don’t meet the minimum income requirement, this means you can’t service the minimum credit limit the lender offers with this card.

Low rate credit cards have lower minimum income requirements. You can compare these cards here.

      Thanks for your question.
