Are the free flights available from and within WA?

    • Staff
      Jeremy | June 18, 2011

      Hi Todd

Thanks for your comment. The flight offer is for up to 4 flight segments per year and is defined as a non-stop flight. e.g. a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne, with a Sydney stopover will be considered as 2 flight segments, Bris ? Syd then Syd ? Melb

The terms and conditions don’t have any restrictions saying that the flights aren’t available from and within WA. The airport however would have to have Virgin Australia flights available.

      Cheers

what is the expire on the fly POINTS?
can you wait and wait to accumulate more points?

    • Staff
      Jeremy | July 25, 2011

      Hi Maria

      Thanks for your question

As long as you continue to occasionally earn or redeem Velocity Points, your Velocity membership never closes and your Points balance will never expire. If you don’t earn or redeem Velocity Points in a three-year period, your Account will become inactive and your membership and Points balance may be terminated.

Yes – you can choose to keep the points in your Velocity Rewards account and continue earning more points.

      Cheers

how many points do you need to book a flight and where do i make my payments on the card in adelaide ta

    • Staff
      Jeremy | August 2, 2011

      Hi Deb

      Thanks for your question

To book a flight, it really depends on the origin and destination. You can use the points calculator on the Velocity Rewards website to calculate the required amount of points.

Bills are payable with either a Funds Transfer (from another bank account), by Direct Debit Auto Pay, Cheque, via Bank@Post at an Australia Post office or via BPay from any other suitable bank account that you have.

      Cheers,

      Jeremy

    • Staff
      Jeremy | August 2, 2011

      Hi Rose

      Thanks for your question

When applying for the credit card, there is a section specifically for doing a balance transfer where you outline your existing credit card details and balances. The bank will then either give you a cheque to pay off those balances with each provider, or pay each provider directly.

      Cheers,

      Jeremy

Hi, before I apply for this card it says you need to have your income details. What exact details will it ask me for in order to prove my income is over $40k? I work casual and my pay rate varies week to week.

    • Staff
      Jeremy | February 29, 2012

      Hi Susan,

Your income details are basically what you earn, your employers name and address and phone number. They will also ask you what you spend and what you owe and own too. You will probably have to provide your last few payslips via fax or email as proof of income once the application has been completed. They use this information to determine how much credit should be made available to you. Hope this helps.

      Cheers

if you use this card for a balance transfer for the 9 months to get the 0% interest rate, and then after that time balance transfer to another offer do you get penalised?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 12, 2012

Hi Tom. There’s no penalty for doing this. In order to make this work, you will need to make sure that for which ever card you chose to apply for, the approved credit limit is higher than the outstanding debt you wish to perform a balance transfer on. Thanks for your question.

hi, where do you go and pay your credit card payments. Is it via online or thru a virgin bank institute. How long will it take for virgin to process the application >
Once the card has been paid, can the credit limit drop to its minimum..??

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 5, 2012

HI Harold. You can manage the account through My Virgin Money. Once you’ve paid the outstanding balance you can request to have the credit limit lowered to the minimum. Applications take about twenty minutes to complete and you usually have an answer straight after you finish. From there it takes about two weeks before you get your card. Cheers.

What’s the situation with the t&c’s behind the bonus 20 000 velocity points, is it simply a bonus incentive to attract new customers or do I need to spend say $5000 in the first month to receive it?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 5, 2012

Hi Rebecca. To be eligible for the 15,000 bonus Velocity points you will need to spend $5,000 within the first three months of having the card. You will get 7,500 when you apply for the card and make a retail purchase and a further 7,500 if you spend a total of $5,000 on the card in the first three months.

p.s. Apprx. 15,000 points are needed for a Sydney to Melbourne flight.

      Jacob | August 20, 2012

Hi Jess. If you transfer a balance to this card though the balance transfer promotional rate of interest you will have to pay 1.9% on the total amount each month, for nine months. That’s just the minimum repayment, you are free to pay as much as you would like each month. Cheers.

    G’day,
    Just wondering about interest payments.
My current credit cards interest period begins on the 26th of each month. I make sure I pay off anything I use the credit card by that date so that I never actually incur or have to make an interest payment.
I want to know if it is possible to use this card in the same way, and never actually pay any interest payments? If so, what kind of a timeframe does one have to pay off their transactions or simply clear the cards balance to do this?

    • Staff
      Jacob | April 4, 2013

Hi Patrick. Thanks for your question and sorry about the delay. This card offers interest free days on purchases. If you pay your bill off in full you won’t incur any interest charges on your purchases. You can let the payment wait until the end of the interest free term and still get interest free days too. This page has information on interest free days really means. Jacob.

can I earn points when I Bpay a bill

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 20, 2012

Hi Dane. Thanks for your question. It depends on whether the person / organisation is set up as a BPAY Biller. If they are, your transaction will be treated as a purchase and you will earn points; if they’re not set up with the service, you’re payment will be treated as a cash advance as you will not earn points. Cheers.

Balance transfers from other credit cards. Do they have to be made at the time of application or can then be done once the card is issued? Can you transfer more than one and at different times?
Is the low interest rate applicable from the inception date of the card of from the date of the transfer of funds?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 20, 2012

Hi Mary. The following is taken from the Virgin Money FAQ Page, ‘You can apply to transfer a balance from another financial institution when applying for your new Virgin Credit Card. All you have to do is give us the key details of the other account, including the name the account’s held in, the type of Card or account it is, the Card or Account number, the amount you want to transfer and the name and address of the organisation that issued the Card or account you’d like to transfer from. Balance Transfers can also take up to 10 working days to process. Click here to find out more.

It’s important to know that any special balance transfer offers are only available for 30 days after your card is approved. So it’s best to request a balance transfer when you complete your application or soon after your card has been approved.’

      Hope this helps.

Do low interest balance transfer have to be done at the time of application or can they be done at a later time?
Can you transfer more than one credit card balance at different times?
Does the low interest rate apply from inception date of the card or from the date of transfer?

    • Staff
      Jacob | March 28, 2013

      Hi Mary. Apologies in the delayed response, but here is goes;
      1) The Virgin websites states that, ‘When you apply for a new Virgin Credit Card, you can apply for a Balance Transfer. Any credit account balances with other financial institutions/stores, such as: Visa and MasterCard (all banks), Most store cards (e.g. David Jones and Myer), Personal Loans, Lines of credit.’ Generally the wording of these things is to be taken literally, so, you will need to apply for a balance transfer at the time you apply for the credit card.
      2) You are able to consolidate a multiple credit cards debts to Virgin credit cards (up to 80% of your approved credit limit) – once again to be done at the time of card application.
      3) The applicable interest rate applies from when the card is activated. Although you apply for a balance transfer when you apply for the credit card, it is not processed until you activate the credit card (this is when the promotional interest rate starts).
Thanks for your question. Ask again if you have questions about balance transfers.

    Hi Jeremy,

Does the interest free period for purchases apply to overseas transactions? Will there be a currency conversion fee?

    Thanks,
    Brenton

    • Staff
      Jeremy | November 10, 2011

      Hi Brenton

I have confirmed that the 0% purchase rate offer applies to overseas transactions.

There is a Foreign Currency Exchange Fee for Visa transactions of 3.3%. When you use your card overseas, a foreign currency exchange fee is charged on all retail and cash transactions that are converted into Australian dollars. On your statement, you will see overseas transactions converted to the Australian dollar value and including the fees as one single transaction.

      Cheers

Why is this and several other credit card websites promoting 0% interest on cash advances for 6 months until 31st December 2011. Then when you ring up not true and never has been.

    • Staff
      Jeremy | November 9, 2011

      Hi Susan,

      Thanks for the comment.

The Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card is offering a 0% p.a. for 6 months interest rate on cash advances exclusively online.

Point 6 in the terms and conditions states: 6. The 0% p.a. interest rate applies for the first 6 months on purchases, cash advances and balance transfers.

I have confirmed this with Virgin Money and this is definitely the case should you apply for the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card via our website.

With the buy 1 airfare and get 1 free is that for a return flight or is that just one way. So if I was to fly from Perth to Melbourne and back I would only use 1 of my four complementary flights per year?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 1, 2012

Hi Joe. Thanks for your question. The following is taken from the Virgin ‘Four Complimentary Flights Information Page‘:

      Here’s how it works:

Within 10 days of your Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer card being approved, your Velocity Frequent Flyer account will be updated to show your ‘Complimentary flights’ redemption activity. As soon as your Velocity account has been updated, you can call Virgin Australia to book your flights. You can buy one seat and get a 2nd complimentary seat when you fly domestically on Virgin Australia and it’s available for Saver, Flexi, and Business fare classes only. Saver Sale fares cannot be used as part of this offer.
The primary cardholder must always be one of the guests travelling. Flights for this offer can only be booked by the primary cardholder.
It’s important to know that the flights for this offer cannot be booked on the internet and seats are subject to restricted availability. Seat availability and fare prices advertised on the Virgin Australia website are not indicative of the seats and fare prices available for this offer. Seat availability and fare prices available as part of this offer are managed separately by the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre.
Your bookings must be made a minimum of 21 days in advance of travel so when you’re ready to book your flights, give our friends at the Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre a call on 13 67 89 and have your Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card and Velocity membership number handy and quote promotion code: ’2FOR1CC1′. The Virgin Australia Guest Contact Centre will be happy to consider other dates you may wish to travel as some dates are more restricted than others.
The complimentary seat is worked out by giving you a 50% discount off the total fare (taxes included) and standard credit card fees apply, the amount will be advised to you at the time of making the booking and you must use your Flyer Credit Card to pay for the tickets.
The offer is for up to 4 flight segments per year and a segment is defined as a non stop flight. So if your flight has a pitt stop on the way to your destination, that is classified as two flight segments (e.g. a flight from Brisbane to Melbourne, with a Sydney stopover will be considered as 2 flight segments, Bris ? Syd then Syd ? Melb).
Both Virgin Australia Guests must be booked to travel together at all times in order to be eligible for the offer. This means that the Itinerary cannot be split, and all flight changes must be made for both Guests.’

    • Staff
      Jeremy | February 10, 2012

      Hi Paul,

Thanks for your question. The terms and conditions set out the guidelines for complimentary international travel insurance, transit accident insurance and interstate flight inconvenience insurance. Interstate Flight Inconvenience Insurance and Transit Accident Insurance cover you and your family for things like missed flights and lost luggage etc. when in a domestic terminal, while the international cover includes your entire overseas trip. Please check the fine print by following the terms and conditions link at the bottom of the page for further information or don’t hesitate to give Virgin a call for clarification on certain points. Hope this had helped. Cheers.

Hi Linda. Thanks for your question. You can earn an unlimited amount of Velocity points per month, but the rate of accrual will change. For the first $1500 spent, you will earn at a rate of 1:1. and 0.5:1 Point to dollars after that. You will earn points when you use your card to purchase Virgin flights (sales and promotions included) and when you use your card to purchase flights from another airline, say Qantas. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question. We couldn’t find the exact conversion because miles are calculated in blocks on the Velocity Rewards website. A flight between Sydney and Melbourne is 456 miles and requires 6900 rewards for an economy seat. There are a host of other airlines that act as Virgin partners that all have different standards for calculating the milage value of their rewards. Cheers.

      Hi Justin,

The Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer and High-Flyer cards offer four ‘buy one get on free’ domestic flights within Australian every year. You will need to cover the credit card booking fees and the available seats are the Saver, Flexi, and Premium fare classes and not sale fares. The offer is also restricted by seat availability, the Primary Cardholder must always be one of the Guests travelling on the booking, bookings must be made a minimum of 21 days in advance of travel, the two people must be travelling together and you must book over the phone and not over the internet. For a full list of restrictions, refer to the terms and conditions found here

If I transfer $25,000 from my existing two credit cards, are my existing cards cancelled? Also what would be the minimum monthly repayments be if no new charges are added to the card. Finally, if I buy flights on the card, is interest charged from the 1st day? If this is the case if I pay for the flights straight away will interest still be charged at the 20.99% rate?

    • Staff
      Jacob | March 27, 2013

Hi Maurice. Thanks for the question and apologies for the delay in my response. To answer your questions:
      1) Your existing credit cards are not cancelled after you carry out a balance transfer, it is your responsibility to do this if you choose to do so.
      2) The minimum monthly repayment for this card is currently 2% – You will have to pay 2% of the total balance each month to keep your account in good standing.
      3) Normally, when you put a purchase on the credit card, you will receive up to 44 days interest free days; however, if you have a balance transfer balance, you will not get interest free days and interest will be charged from the day you make a purchase. If you pay the card off the same day, you won’t be charged interest – interest is calculated daily.

That’s everything except: ‘cash advances, balance transfers, special promotions, fees, purchases of foreign currency, travellers cheques, interest charges, government charges, insurance charges, payments to loan accounts, purchases in excess of limits on the account, transaction made in the operating of a business and if the account is more than $10,000 in credit.’ Hope this has helped.

Can I get a balance transfer card and transfer the balance from 2 different cards onto one?

It says booking the complimentary flights the prices on the website are not valid, you have to go through the virgin client services center, does this mean they will charge you more for the flights than say a saver fare online? thus losing the benefits.

      Hi Josh,
      thanks for the question.

The terms and conditions for this offer state it can be used in Saver Lite, Saver, Flexi and Business fares, meaning you’re not required to purchase a more expensive ticket.

I hope this answers your question.
      Marc.

Sorry, please disregard last question, I have seen the answer. If there is an additional cardholder, can they have full access to all matters. My current card provider won’t give ANY help or information to the additional card holder.

      Jacob | July 25, 2012

Hi Alison. An additional cardholder can do things like spend, they can’t increase / decrease credit limits or make administrative changes to the account. Thanks for your question.

Hi Matt. According to the Virgin website, ‘When you apply for a new Virgin Credit Card, you can apply for a Balance Transfer. Any credit account balances with other financial institutions/stores, such as: Visa and MasterCard (all banks), Most store cards (e.g. David Jones and Myer), Personal Loans, Lines of credit.’ Thanks for your question.

Do I earn velocity points on credit card purchases during the balance transfer period?
If I make a credit card purchase during the balance transfer period does this affect the low transfer interest rate? Or will the new purchase be just be charged at the normal interest rate?

    • Staff
      Jacob | July 19, 2012

Hi Michael. Thanks for your question. Points will still be earnt on purchases made while you have a balance transfer balance being charged to your account. This balance transfer rate will not be affected by purchases you make during this period, only that if you have a number of transactions charged at different rates of interest (cash advances, balances transfers and purchases) the debt that attracts the high rate of interest will be paid first. For further information on this, refer to our article on the allocation of repayments to your credit card. Hope this helps. Cheers.

currently a silver FF and trying for gold status. Would taking out a virgin credit card give me any extra status points to achieve this? Current monthly spend is around $,1500.

My current card is a Citibank platinum and a joint Amex with my husband.

    Regards,
    Linda

      Jacob | July 24, 2012

Hi Linda. Status points are earnt on flights on Qantas and Oneworld alliance partners. Taking out the Virgin card would not earn Qantas Frequent Flyer Status credit as the Virgin credit card is linked to the Velocity frequent flyer program. Thanks for your question.

what is a ‘velocity point’? For example what does 1000 points accrue or 15,000 or ….?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 1, 2012

Hi Brian. A Velocity Point is the currency of the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program. It’s Virgin’s answer to Qantas Frequent Flyer points. These points can be redeemed for flights and gifts to name a few things and if you check the rewards program tab at the bottom of the Virgin Australia Velocity Flyer Card Review page, you will find information about the value of these points in relation to how much you have to spend to get from Sydney to Melbourne. Thanks for your question.

      Hello Jilla,
      thanks for the question.

Unfortunately this card doesn’t allow joint applications, and has a minimum income of $35,000. To answer your second question Velocity points can be redeemed for Etihad flights.

Can you use your frequent flyer points to purchase travel for a family member or friend who does not hold an additional card

    • Staff
      Adrian | September 4, 2012

      Hi Helen,
You can do this at here and login, you will be able to transfer points online to a Velocity Frequent Flyer member using the ‘points transfer’ button. Your friend or family member will have to use their email to set up a free Velocity account to enable this. You will have to transfer a minimum of 5,000 points. The maximum transfer is 100,000 points, and you can make four transfers per year.
      Hope this helps.
