Consolidate your existing credit card debts

Benefit from a really low balance transfer rate of just 0% p.a. for 8 months. This is a great way to consolidate your existing credit card debt. Put your existing card debts into this new card then make the most of the next 8 months.

Pay as much off your debt as you possibly can by increasing your repayments so when the 8 months are up you’ll hopefully be debt free.

It’s important to note that the low balance transfer rate fee will then revert back to the standard cash advance fee of 20.99% p.a. which means you’ll be hit with a lot of interest if you still haven’t paid off your debt by then. So keep this in mind.

Get complimentary seats on the same flight (up to 4 times each year)

When you buy a domestic Virgin flight with your new Flyer Visa Platinum you can qualify for up to 4 free additional flights every year on the same flight. Please note some terms and conditions apply for this so read the small print before submitting your application.

Get rewarded for spending money

For every dollar you purchase you get 1 Velocity Point on your card. You can earn up to 1500 points each month in this fashion. Once you’ve spent $1,500, you’ll earn 1 point for every $2 you spend.

Colour code the card to your wardrobe

What Else do I Get?

You get a number of cool benefits when you tuck this nifty little card into your back pocket. For starters you get access to regular Virgin specials and offers (including discounts).

Your card is protected by the standard Fraudshield protection. It’s monitored for fraud 24/7 so you can get peace of mind. Plus you get:

  • An option to obtain CreditShield Edge
  • Concierge service – 24/7 customer service
  • A zero liability guarantee

How Can I Apply?

If you’re at least 18 years old, have an income of $35,000 per annum and more, are a permanent Australian resident and have a decent credit rating, then you can apply for this card right now.

Before you click to submit your application make sure you have all information at hand, such as your income/expense details, account details for possible balance transfers, your driver’s license and if you have it your Velocity Membership card or number.

Is this card also available for business applications?
If a married couple get the credit card, can you get two credit cards but have them linked to the same account?
Can you also then have your business credit card linked to the same account as the married couple’s account to increase the points?

    • Staff
      Jacob | August 23, 2012

Hi J, thanks for your question. This credit card is open to personal applications only, business can’t apply. Although business employees can take out a card in their own name and have their employer reimburse them. Virgin do not offer any credit cards that allow joint-account holders, for a list of providers that do, please refer to our page on institutions that allow joint-account credit cards. Cheers.

Up to 4 trips a year? Does this mean you have to spend a certain amount on the card for each trip? Is it 4 trips regardless how the card is used? The site is not forthcoming in explaining this!

      Jacob | August 27, 2012

Hi Nigel. Thanks for your question. If you book your flights with Virgin, you receive 1 free domestic airfare and 2 Virgin lounge entries. Anytime you book travel on this card you receive domestic and international travel insurance with included inconvenience insurance. If booking with Virgin you will receive 3 Velocity points per dollar spent. If booking you choose to fly with another carrier you with get the standard 1.5 points per dollar spent on the fare. For details around the four complimentary Virgin flights, please refer to their terms and conditions. Cheers.

Hi can you transfer the balance of a personal loan to this card? Thanks

    • Staff
      Jacob | September 28, 2012

Hi Shannon. Thanks for your question. The following was taken from the Virgin Credit Card FAQs Page: ‘Any credit account balances with other financial institutions/stores, such as: Visa and MasterCard (all banks), Most store cards (e.g. David Jones and Myer), Personal Loans and Lines of credit’, can be included in a balance transfer. Cheers.

    Hi,

Does this card allow transfers from multiple cards. Is there a maximum amount that can be transferred? E.g. like 70% of the limit in the card.

    Thanks
    K

    • Staff
      Jacob | October 17, 2012

Hi Kramer. Thanks for your question. Virgin will allow a balance transfer from non-related Virgin credit cards up to 80% of the approved credit limit for the new card. For information on transferring the balance from multiple cards, check this page. And for information on which institutions Virgin won’t allow a balance transfer from, check this page. Cheers.

    Hi,

Is there a precedent of interest rate payment? For example – if I tranfer $5,000 and then buy flights for $300 (at 20.99%) does the repayment I make on the card pay down the $300 first or last?

Is there a virgin card with the 4 free fights a year i can apply for if my income is only just over $20000. I am thinking of transferring my other credit card balance of around $5000(I haven’t bought want I want as yet), I am really just wanting the free flights and the low transfer balance, thanks. My credit rating is perfect and have had this other platinum credit card for many years. If this is not possible could we have the Virgin card in 2 names (one of which flies to the UK quite often!), just a thought , that would make the annual income much higher. I would like one just for myself though if possible!

What percentage of the balance transfer do you pay? Thanks

    • Staff
      Jacob | November 20, 2012

Hi Stefan. Thanks for your question, the minimum monthly repayment is currently 2.00%. You’re unable to direct payments to a specific portion of the debt, rather there’s an automatic allocation of payments. So, if you only have a balance transfer balance on your card and you only pay the minimum each month, you’ll pay 2.00% off that balance each month. If you have other charges on the card like cash advances and purchases, your repayments will be directed to those charges first while the balance transfer balance will go unpaid. There is no limit to how much you can pay off the card at any one time. Cheers.

    Kind regards
    Jo

    • Staff
      Jacob | December 14, 2012

Hi Joanne. Thanks for your question. The Virgin Velocity Flyer card currently offers a promotion currently 1.9% interest for balances transferred for 12 months. Generally speaking if you’re approved for a credit card, you’re also eligible for a balance transfer; however, there are instances when a balance transfer won’t be accepted: you can’t transfer more than your available credit limit on your new card, you can’t transfer Virgin to Virgin, there are no interest free days while you have a balance transfer promotion running on your card, balance transfers are only available if you’re transferring from a credit card or store card and no points are earned on balance transfers as it is treated as a cash transaction. To organise a balance transfer, please progress with your application. Cheers.

Hi Faye. Thanks for your question. After the promotional balance transfer period has finished, you will be charged at the cash advance rate on any balance owing from the original balance transfer amount. Cheers.

    • Staff
      Jacob | December 31, 2012

Hi Barbara. Thanks for your question. If you meet the eligibility requirements at the bottom of the review and application page then you are able to apply for this card. Please list your employer details as they appear on your employment documentation, I.e. tax documents and pay slips etc. There should be no issue with listing the government as an employer. If there is, please inform a representative from the organisation you want to apply for a card with. Hope this helps.

    Hi there,
In regards to the additional flights, I believe to qualify for these flights you need to be travelling a as pair on the same flight, the terms and conditions state that a 50% discount is given to both people travelling which I guess is the equivalent to one free flight. Just to clarify, does that mean if I see a flight to Perth from Sydney for let’s say $300 on the Internet and there are seats free for that particular flight, than the total would be $150 for each person – is this correct?

    Thank you in advance :)

    • Staff
      Jacob | January 9, 2013

Hi Heidi. Thanks for your question. What you have suggested sounds correct. This page on how the Virgin complimentary flights offer works should be of some assistance. Cheers.

If I Balance Transfer $X to this Virgin card and am not able to pay the Full amount in the 9mths provided, can I balance transfer out to another bank card? (ie are there fees involved?).
Also would I be required to close my other bank credit card I’m transferring out of?
    Thank you in advance…

    • Staff
      Jacob | January 29, 2013

Hi Frank. Thanks for your question. If you’re not able to pay off the full amount during the balance transfer promotional period, you are able to balance transfer again to a different credit card. You’re not required to close the old card once a balance transfer has been processed. Cheers.

I run a small business with employees. At present we use Amex business green cards which basically act like a debit card monthly. Can we sign a business up with multiple cards and can we clear the debt monthly?

    • Staff
      Jacob | February 7, 2013

Hi Peter. Yes you can do this. Most business credit cards allow you to have multiple additional cards to give to employees. American Express, for instance, let you have up to 99 additional cardholders. Please refer to our business credit card comparison page to find the card that is right for you. Thanks.

    • Staff
      Jacob | March 23, 2013

Hi Ronan. Thanks for your question. Your credit limit is assigned based on the financial information you provide to the lender during application — they will give you a limit based on the size of the debt they think you can handle. You can lower the limit or apply to have it raised after you apply provided you’re approved — if you apply for a credit limit increase, it will be marked as a enquiry on your credit file. Cheers.
