With the black card say I get a limit of $10000. I balance transfer $5000. Then to get the bonus points I spend the $2500 in first month. When the statement comes if I pay $2500 will there be any interest charged next month? I hope not as the reminder $5000 is at 0% rate.
If instead I paid only the 2% (of $7500 outstanding) minimum amount i.e $150 how will be the interest charged? I am assuming $2500-$150 I.e $2350 from purchase will be charged 1% interest and the balance transfer of $5000 will be at 0% interest.
    Please clarify?

      Hi Bilby,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Interest rates for BT and purchases are actually computed separately. So, with Westpac Altitude Black, the BT interest rate will be 0% p.a. that means your BT of $5000 will not incur interest for 18 months.

However, if you will use your card on eligible purchases (to get the bonus points), you will be charged 1% p.a. interest for those purchases. That is if you will not pay your balance on purchases in full in your next payment cycle. The interest will be computed on a daily basis and will appear on your monthly statement.

Hope this has answered your question.

      Cheers,
      May

Thanks. So to be clear If I balance transfer $5000 and then subsequently made purchase of $2500 the amount I need to pay to avoid any interest is $2500 in the first cycle?

    • Staff
      May | July 26, 2016

      Hi Bilby,

      Thanks for your reply.

Yes, you got it right. As your BT is already at 0% interest, you will no longer be charged interest for that. So for the purchases, yes, the requirement is you need to pay in full every payment cycle so the interest (of 1% p.a.) will not be billed.

      Cheers,
      May

      Hi Ada,

      Thanks for your question.

Aside from the annual fee waiver on the first year for new credit card customers, I’m not aware of other annual fee waiver offer by Westpac Altitude Black. You can directly inquire from Westpac if they have such special offer for valued clients who have reached certain amount of spending.

      Cheers,

    Hi
I am living overseas now temporarily but still use my Westpac Black Altitude cards.
Am I still entitled to the complimentary travel insurance?
I have been a holder for many years and have never claimed but now I have a small claim that I would like to make due a traffic incident.
    Thanks

      Thanks for your question.

To be eligible for complimentary travel insurance attached to Westpac Black Altitude cards, you need to be permanently residing in Australia or is holding a current and valid 457 Visa and residing in Australia. Aside from this, other eligibility criteria apply.

I currently have an American Express Rewards Advantage card which allows me to accumulate rewards points which I can use for frequent flyer programs. it also has automatic excess car insurance cover where a motor vehicle is hired using the Amex.
Is the Westpac Altitude Black comparable to the Amex?
I get some merchant resistance to the Amex card.

      Chester | July 12, 2016

      Hi Martin!

The black card does come with similar benefits such as the AMEX card to accumulate extra points along with the complimentary travel insurance. The reward cards come with both MasterCard and AMEX so that you may use the MasterCard at times were AMEX isn’t accepted.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers!

      Ally | March 15, 2016

      Hi Som,

      Thanks for your inquiry.

Kindly note that finder.com.au is an online comparison service that does not represent any credit card issuer such as Westpac.

Please also note that there are two kinds of Westpac Altitude Black cards. One is the MasterCard and the other is AMEX. Westpac’s terms and conditions state that you can earn 1.5 Altitude Points for each dollar you pay to the ATO as long as you’re using the Westpac Altitude Black AMEX Card.

For your reference, kindly see the third dot point of page 8 on the link that I sent to your email.

      I hope this has helped.

      Cheers,
      Ally

Could you please clearly explain if this credit card will earn points on ATO Payments.

    If yes how many points.

Please specify $1 Spent on Amex = xxx Altitude Points
Please specify $1 Spent on MasterCard = xxx Altitude Points

Whilst this website advises that you will earn points – Westpac claims you do not.

    Thanks!

      Ysa | March 9, 2016

      Hi Yusuf,

      Thanks for your question.
With Altitude American Express, you can earn 1 Altitude Point per dollar paid to the ATO.
Unfortunately, using Altitude Visa or MasterCard does not let you earn points for ATO payments.

You may also compare other credit cards that reward you on paying tax bills.

      I hope this helps.

      Hi Ysa

So on Altitude Amex you get 1 point per dollar for amex which converts to 0.5 Frequent flyer point. Is this correct?

Is it the same for the altitude black card?

      Regards

      Yusuf

    • Staff
      Ysa | March 10, 2016

      Hi Yusuf,

      Thanks again for your question.

Yes, the points earn rate for ATO payments is also applicable for Altitude Black Card.

However, please note that Altitude points are not accepted by Qantas Frequent Flyer.

No conversion rate applies for Altitude and Qantas, unless you change to earning direct Qantas points on your Altitude card.

      I hope this helps.

With the Westpac Altitude Black Card, is the conversion rate to Qantas points the same as with the Altitude points?

For example: 3 Qantas points per $1 spent on the Amex card? 1.25 Qantas points per $1 spent in Aus on the Mastercard?

    Thank you

    • Staff
      Jonathan | March 8, 2016

Hi Julie, thanks for your inquiry!

The earning rate for Qantas is half that of Altitude points. You earn $1 = 0.625 Qantas Points on Australian purchases (Domestic) and $1 = 1.5 Qantas Points for overseas purchases.

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
