with the purchase of goods or services on which you earn
      points)
      - interest and other bank fees and charges (including any GST
      payable on any of these)
      - cash advances (any transaction treated by us as a cash
advance as further explained in the “Interpretation” section
      – clause 18 below)
      - balance transfers
      - Bpay payments; ie bill payments and other payments made

Is it possible to transfer Altitude points to Velocity points?

Or are Altitude points transferrable for flights?

    • Staff
      Jacob | March 11, 2013

Hi Stephanee. Thanks for your question. You can convert Altitude points for Velocity Points at the rate of 2 Altitude Points to 1 Velocity Rewards Point. At least 3,000 points per exchange. Anything over 3,000 points must be done in 500 point increments at a time. 3 days transfer duration. Altitude Points can be redeemed for travel vouchers through the Altitude Rewards Store. Cheers.

    1. For overseas Travel Insurance what percentage of the fare do you have to pay with the Visa card in order to qualify for the travel insurance? (The Airlines charge a large premium)
    2. If a claim has to be made, is there an excess to be paid, and how much is it?
    (Westpac Visa Platinum)

    • Staff
      Jacob | December 17, 2012

Hi Jenny. Thanks for your question. According to the Westpac complimentary travel insurance terms and conditions, cover is extended to cardholders who pay for, ‘the total value (i.e. including but not limited to money and/or reward type points and/or staff discounts) of the return overseas travel ticket (but not taxes, airport or travel agent charges)’ on an eligible Westpac credit card. The excess you have to contribute will depend on the type of claim you make. Hope this helps.

      Jacob | March 11, 2013

Hi MIchelle. Thanks for writing in with this one. According to Westpac: ‘Effective for each statement cycle commencing on and from 17 June 2013, a points cap of 7,500 points applies when using either or both cards. Bonus points do not count towards the points cap.’ Hope this helps.

Hello John, thanks for the question.

The insurance policy offered through the Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card will cover cardholders, their spouses and dependent children provided the person is up to and including 80 years of age when they become eligible for cover. The travel insurance will cover trips of up to 6 months, including any secondary trips such as international cruises. For more information or to find out what kinds of cover is available to you, it may be useful to call Zurich, which is the insurance provider for this card.

      I hope this helps,
      Marc.

It’s about time this was updated. Westpac now caps the total monthly points from June onwards, regardless of credit card spending.

    • Staff
      Jacob | April 3, 2013

Hi Brian. Thanks for writing in about this. The cap will take effect from 17 June 2013. We are putting a notice on the relevant pages about this until then. Thanks again. Jacob.

I am considering changing my Altitude Platinum Card to a no annual fee type card or at least a lower annual fee one, probably with another institution. I am considering this , partly as a protest to Westpac’s decision to cap points earned per month from June 2013. After 20 years in a relationship with Westpac (I have their Visa card), I have made zero claims on the travel insurance and extended warranties, I feel very UNREWARDED! Please comment and advise of card options.

      Jacob | April 19, 2013

Hi Peter. Thanks for your question and your comments. To compare cards with no annual fee, please check this page – it has a number of different providers for you to choose from. The cards listed on this page are considered low rate credit cards. These cards have reduced purchase rates of interest and are cheaper to use than platinum cards or frequent flyer credit cards. Please compare both pages as some of the cards overlap between the two different categories. Let me know if you need any more information. Regards. Jacob.

    • Staff
      Jacob | May 8, 2013

Hi Milvan. Thanks for your question. When you apply for this card, on the first screen it will ask you which card you want to have: a Visa / American Express or a MasterCard / American Express. Jacob.

Beware, Westpac have just capped there points. I have just switched over to NAB. So I’ll use my Westpac cards until 20,000 points and then I’ll use my NAB cards,
    Do your homework.
