If you want more information about the Westpac Altitude Platinum Credit Card if you would like to apply
Both cards are attached to the same credit limit and all your transactions on either card are all displayed clearly on the same statement. The difference is that you’re able to increase the Altitude points you earn by deciding which card to use at various merchants.
On top of this, you also get to take advantage of the many perks attached to owning a Platinum card. These include a range of complimentary travel-related insurance policies, as well as your own personal concierge to take care of anything you need.
Features and Benefits of the card
Interest free days
For those customers who regularly repay the entire account balance amount every month prior to the due date on the statement, you can also benefit from up to 45 days where no interest is charged on purchases you make. This only applies if you repay the outstanding balance in full each month.
Cash advances don’t come under the interest free days offer. Rather, these attract interest at the cash transaction rate from the date the transaction occurred.
Earning more altitude points
Once you’ve made your first purchase on either of your new Westpac Altitude Platinum credit cards, you’ll be rewarded with 20,000 bonus points to get your Altitude account balance started. This offer only applies if you sign up for your new card prior to 1 July 2013.

After this, you’ll earn points based on which card you use to pay for your purchases. These are earned at the rate of one point per $1 if you choose to use your MasterCard. The points you earn doubles if you use your Amex card instead.
It’s also possible to earn bonus points on the amounts you spend simply by using your card when shopping at any of Westpac’s bonus partners. Regular points earning amounts are capped at 7,500 per statement month, but you’re not limited to the number of bonus points you’re able to earn at any time.
Your points don’t expire, so you can continue to accumulate them if you’re saving for something in particular. Otherwise, you can choose to redeem them for a wide selection of items, including merchandise, shopping vouchers, gift cards, and even points with various airline rewards programs.
You can also add an additional cardholder for free at no extra charge to your account. This cardholder needs to be older than 16 years of age, and means the primary cardholder is still liable for any spending made on the card. Having an additional cardholder means you and your partner, child or other family member could also earn Altitude points for you.
Balance transfer offer
If you already maintain an unpaid balance on a credit card with a different lender, you can transfer that balance over to your new Altitude Platinum card and save money on your interest costs.
For a limited time, Westpac will charge an interest rate of just 3.99% on any balance amounts you transfer over from other cards. This offer extends for up to six months, so it’s a good opportunity to reduce costs and work towards repaying that debt faster.
You’re able to transfer up to 95% of your account’s available credit limit. It’s wise to remember that any balance amounts you can’t pay off completely before the introductory six month period expires will be charged at the standard purchase interest rate after this time.
Platinum perks
One of the biggest benefits of owning a premium Platinum credit card is that you can take advantage of the perks available. These include having access to your own personal concierge, who is available via a quick phone call to help you with what you need at any time of the day or night. Your concierge will happily make restaurant reservations for you, help you plan your next party or business meeting, book accommodation for you wherever you’re travelling to, or even call a taxi if you need it.
If you use your credit card to pay for some of your travel expenses, you’ll also be able to access a range of insurance policies at no additional charge to you. These include:
- Overseas Travel Insurance: this includes coverage for medical expenses you may incur overseas.
- Personal Liability Insurance: you’re covered for up to $2.5 million for personal liability in the event that your negligence causes damage to property or harm to another person.
- Personal Property Coverage: you could claim for up to $15,000 for accidental damage or loss to any of your personal property while you’re travelling.
- Travel Document Coverage: you could claim for up to $550 if you lose or damage any of your travel documentation, including your passport.
- Rental Vehicle Excess: if you’re involved in an accident while driving a rental vehicle, any excess amount you may need to pay is covered under this policy, up to a maximum of $5,000.
- Transit Accident Insurance: if you’re a passenger aboard a licensed plane, boat, ferry, train, taxi or bus and you’re in an accident en route to an airport, bus terminal or dock as part of your trip you could be covered for up to $250,000.
- Purchase Security Cover: in the event that any items you purchase using your card are accidentally damaged, lost or stolen, you can claim against this loss for up to three months.
- Extended Warranty: whenever you buy an item using your card, you can extend the regular warranty offered on that product by up to 12 months.

Hello there. We have the altitude platinum card and wish to use the travel insurance. Do we need to contact westpac or fill in any forms?
Hi Steve. Thanks for your question. The travel insurance cover is automatic provided you meet with the eligibility requirements in the terms and conditions, mainly that you spend a certain amount of your prepaid travel expenses on your credit card and that you are completing a return journey to Australia. Check the terms and conditions for further information on this. Cheers.
we have a platinum card with 200,000.points how many qantas frequent flyer points would that be or how many wespac flyer points
Hi Slattery. Thanks for your question. The Altitude Rewards program does not allow you to transfer your points directly to the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, please see this page for the airline partners Westpac allow you to transfer to. But you can redeem your Altitude points for Qantas and other airline flights through the Altitude Travel Program (operated by the PinPoint Travel Group). Sorry for the delayed response. Jacob.
Can you please tell me if the Westpac Platinum insurance would cover a campervan in NZ.
Thank you
Jodi
Hi Jodie. Not sure if this answer is still relevant; however, this information may be of use to other users. Yes, provided you meet the eligibility requirements set out under the policy’s terms and conditions (I have emailed you the document). To be brief, the policy document states: ‘Overseas travel insurance is a benefit available to current Westpac cardholders who by use of the cardholder’s eligible credit card account paid for in full the cost of their return overseas travel tickets prior to leaving Australia. It is also available to the cardholder’s spouse and the cardholder’s dependent children, who travel with the cardholder for the entire journey, provided their return overseas travel tickets were paid for in full by use of the cardholder’s eligible credit card account.’
Thanks for your question and apologies about the time it’s taken to get you this answer. Jacob.
What can the reward points be converted to? Myers / QFF / Velocity / others??
Hi Joe. Please refer to our points transfer guide for information about what you can do with your Westpac Altitude Points. Thanks for your question.
Is it possible to transfer existing Frequent Flyer points to this card from other airlines programmes?
Hi Malcolm. Frequent Flyer points are linked to a Frequent Flyer membership. This means if a new credit card is opened, cardholders simply need to link their existing Frequent Flyer account with the new card to continue earning points. Thanks for your question.
can i redeem my points for thai airways if so how can i manage that. regards
Hi Siripong. The following is taken from the Altitude Rewards Frequent Flyer Calculator, ‘With Altitude Rewards, you can choose to convert your Altitude points to a selection of major international airlines’, including Thai Airways. Thanks for your question.
What is the transfer rate to Velocity.
Hi George. Thanks for your question. Please consult the Westpac Altitude Rewards calculator for an answer to your question. Thanks.
