Because this is a Qantas Frequent Flyer rewards credit card, the idea is that you can earn more points with your Amex card than with your MasterCard, but at those places where Amex isn’t accepted, you simply hand over your MasterCard instead.
Besides this, you can take advantage of the Westpac Earth Platinum’s introductory balance transfer offer of 0.99% p.a. for 6 months the account is open. Anyone paying high interest charges on a non-Westpac credit card could shift their debt and easily take 10% off their interest charges.
Westpac Earth Platinum Rewards Program
- Earn 1.00 Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 spent on purchases when using your Westpac Earth Platinum Amex card
- Earn 0.50 Qantas Frequent Flyer points per $1 spent on purchases when using your Westpac Earth Platinum MasterCard
- Earn points twice – once with your Earth Platinum cards and once with the partner – when you shop at a wide range of Qantas Frequent Flyer program partners
- Earn one extra Qantas Frequent Flyer point per $1 spent on purchases on selected Qantas products and services

Does the Qantas frequent flyer account name need to be linked to the name of the credit card holder?
Hi Kristy
Thanks for your comment!
A cardholder may only earn points for one rewards account which must be in the same name as the corresponding Qantas Frequent Flyer account and the primary cardholder name.
Cheers,
Jeremy
Are additional cardholders charged for this Gold Package?
What is the currency conversion fee on this card?
Hi Sheryl
Thanks for your question
The Westpac Foreign Transaction Fee is the sum of the Westpac Processing Fee and the Westpac On-Charged Scheme Fee.
1. Westpac Processing Fee: A fee of 2.0% of the value of any purchase or Cash Advance/withdrawal transaction made in a foreign currency, following conversion into Australian dollars by the applicable Credit Card scheme, is payable. This fee will be incorporated into the Australian currency equivalent of the transaction shown on your statement.
2. Westpac On-Charged Scheme Fee –
MasterCard® Issuer Cross Border Assessment – 0.8%
MasterCard® Currency Conversion Assessment – 0.2%
American Express® Foreign Exchange Conversion Fee – 1.5%.
Hope this helps!
Cheers
Jeremy
Beware – foreign currency conversion rate of 3.5% when using the AMEX card for transacting. I understand the Mastercard may be 3%.
Also, the overseas ATM charge is $5 per withdrawal (or $0 is use a partner bank).
I already have an Westpac Altitude Platinum Visa & American Express and I would like to cancel those and open an Westpac Earth Platinum Visa. Is there any way I can transfer from one to the other.
HI Raymond. A balance transfer at a low interest rate can not be carried out between two cards offered by the same bank. Check our balance transfer page for a comparison of the offers on the market. Thanks for your question.
IS THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS WITH
THE TRAVEL INSURANCE?
E PARKES
Thanks for your question Edward,
I don’t think there is any age clause. However, here is a clause you may want to consider for this card (please note Zurich provides the complimentary travel insurance if your flights are paid for on this card):
‘If you wish to apply for cover for your pre-existing medical condition, please phone Zurich Assist on 1800 091 710.’
Hope this helps
